Why you should listen

Yvonne Newbold is an expert-by-experience in Learning Disability and Autism thanks to her son, Toby, who has taught her so much throughout his childhood and beyond. She is the founder of Newbold Hope, a parent-led organization supporting families and staff who care for children with a disability or an additional need, who also have extreme episodes of difficult and dangerous behavior. The organization shares the essential knowledge, skills and confidence to enable children to move beyond these very traumatic episodes and to look forward to a much more hopeful and promising future. Due to this work, Newbold now knows of around 4,000 families who have successfully been able to significantly reduce their children's extreme behavior episodes, with many who have moved their children beyond these behaviors altogether.

Newbold also works closely with NHS England and other UK Government organisztions to influence policy and strategy decision-making for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, or who are autistic. She is the author of The Special Parent's Handbook and received an MBE in the 2021 New Year's Honours List for services to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and to their families.
