As chief environmental officer of green battery developer and supplier Northvolt, Emma Nehrenheim works to build the world’s greenest battery, with minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling. She runs initiatives focused on both factory sustainability and global business sustainability as well as the Northvolt business unit Revolt, which involves battery recycling to support the company’s raw material strategy.
After completing a PhD in the area of industrial waste products and wastewater, Nehrenheim engaged in numerous R&D projects before becoming a professor in environmental engineering. Both scientist and academic researcher, she’s helped develop solutions in biogas production, the use of algae for wastewater treatment and the use of organic materials for handling pollutants. She also spent a few years at ABB Power Generation, focusing on disruptive solutions and business models for the utilities.
