You are cordially invited to the next TEDxTheHague salon! Our July edition — themed Technology: Friend or Foe? — is curated by TEDxTheHague regular Chris Kleingeld. Chris writes:
"I think that technology is amazing. Technological advances have so much possibilities and potential that it changes our lives drastically. In terms of social media, technology has already changed the way we communicate and interact. Facebook, twitter, dating sites, and more are taking over our social lives, fast. After seeing several TED talks touching on this subject, it really got me thinking about how this modern technology is affecting us."
We'll explore this theme by watching and discussing the following videos:
Kevin Kelly tells technology's epic story (TEDxAmsterdam)
Kevin Kelly has been publisher of the Whole Earth Review, exec editor at Wired, and writer on biology and business and Cool Tools. In this wide-ranging, thought-provoking talk, Kevin Kelly muses on what technology means in our lives — from its impact at the personal level to its place in the cosmos.
Pattie Maes and Pranav Mistry demo SixthSense
This talk is probably the most famous tech demo in TED history. SixthSense is a wearable device with a projector that paves the way for profound interaction with our environment. Imagine Minority Report and then some. Even with Google Glass hitting the shelves soon, SixthSense still is an amazing concept.
Ariel Garten: Know thyself, with a brain scanner (TEDxToronto)
Imagine playing a video game controlled by your mind. Now imagine that game also teaches you about your own patterns of stress, relaxation and focus. Ariel Garten shows how looking at our own brain activity gives new meaning to the ancient dictum "know thyself."
