For too long we have lived in a world where short-term fixes are ‘good enough’. Imagine a world where people intentionally designed solutions with the future in mind. Imagine if every company followed a ‘future proofing’ process to minimise possible negative consequences. Can we seize opportunities when they arise and protect our future at the same time?
On the 19th of October, a diverse selection of young aspiring entrepreneurs, researchers, futurists, sustainable thinkers and scientists will present their unique perspectives and insights on the TEDxMacquarieUniversity 2013 topic: FUTUREPROOF.
If we had ‘future-proofed’, would we have seen the coming of the Global Financial Crisis of 2008? Could we have foreseen the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico? Would we have the environmental problems that we face today? Would we live in a world challenged by two seemingly disparate phenomena of over-nutrition and under-nutrition.
Who knows? Looking forward though, perhaps a ‘FUTUREPROOF’ approach to life, work and education could prevent such occurrences in the coming years. This simple change in mindset could ultimately protect the human race.
