In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Carlos Piera Serra is just a happy guy! He won a “Happiest Kid” Award at the age of 11, starred in comedy shows, acted and sang because he loved making others smile. 12 years after winning the “Happiest Kid” award, Carlos took a life changing trip across the Atlantic Ocean. After contemplative nights of looking at the stars, reading books and talking with his father and best friend, Carlos was struck by the universal need for happiness. In his next adventure, Carlos went to India to work at a HR Consultancy and do social work. He was amazed to discover that despite the challenges, the people he was helping were already happy. This led him to questions about the nature of a fulfilled life and reminded him about his journey across the Altantic. That’s when it hit him: “I’ll go back and make happy-work!”. Today, Carlos collaborates with Delivering Happiness and has become a key member of the community. Some of the companies he has made “happiness” at include: Lindt, Levis, Pans&Company and Desigual.Richard Watson

Nic Marks thinks that quality of life is measurable, and that true contentment comes not from the accumulation of material wealth but from our connections with others, engagement with the world, and sense of autonomy. This isn't just theory: pioneer in the field of well-being research, Marks creates statistical methods to measure happiness, analyzing and interpreting the evidence so that it can be applied to such policy fields as education, sustainable development, healthcare, and economics. Founder of the Centre for Well-Being, an independent think tank at the New Economics Foundation (NEF), in London, Marks is particularly keen to promote a balance between sustainable development and quality of life. To investigate this, he devised the Happy Planet Index, a global index of human well-being and environmental impact. The results made headlines: People in the world's wealthiest countries, who consume the most of the planet's resources, don't come out on top in terms of well-being. Which raises the question: What purpose does unfettered economic growth serve? Cecilia Tham is a maker in the digital age. Cecilia draws from her multicultural experience from her upbringing in Hong Kong, her education in the US and her knowledge building a collaborative community in the heart of Barcelona, aptly named: Makers of Barcelona (MOB). Having studied first biology and later received her Master in Architecture from Harvard University, she unexpectedly found her true passion in Art and Design and then decided to move to Europe to find new challenges. In November of 2010, Cecilia went to her rooftop and called out to all of the creative folks in Barcelona. She invited everyone: from programmers to design junkies, from entrepreneurs to makers- she envisioned them all coming together to unite against the crisis, the lackluster projects, the bad networking events. She wanted to help them find their own space, even if they had to make it from scratch. A year later – Cecilia’s vision has now become MAKERS OF BARCELONA, a collaborative community and facility for the innovative hipsters, the creative geeks and the business-savvy movers and shakers that call Barcelona home. When she’s not busy helping connect people inside the creative community or pushing the city to promote the creative district in Barcelona- you can find her designing a building at Habitan Architects where she is also a partner, or simply making a new stuffed animal for her daughters.Organizing team
