TEDxYouth@ColumbiaSC is an annual by-youth, for-youth conference founded in 2012 to inspire and educate local youth by featuring speakers that bring new or rarely-discussed ideas and perspectives to help guide and develop a youth community of inquisitive, open-minded critical thinkers. The founder, Kevin Rabinovich, was denied acceptance to TEDxColumbiaSC due to attendance age restrictions, and as a result, decided to start a youth version of the event. Offshoots of the main TED conference, which takes place annually in California, TEDx events are intended to have a local or regional focus and TEDxYouth@ColumbiaSC is a showcase of talent, innovation, and topics specifically selected to inspire teens and young adults within the community. Columbia's first TEDxYouth conference was held in April 2012. This year's conference, hosted by IT-oLogy@Innovista and sponsored by various organizations, focuses on youth empowerment, and fittingly, will showcase more youth speakers and performers.
This conference was free and open to the public, and was held on Saturday April 27, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, at the IT-oLogy@Innovista Auditorium, located on 1301 Gervais Street.
