In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Shankar N.G.

Mr N G Shankar joined the Aditya Birla Group in 2001 as Head of the Corporate Audit function and has the responsibility for the internal audit activity for businesses of the Group as diverse as Aluminium, Carbon Black, Mining to BPO, Telecom and Retail. After graduating in Economics and obtaining a Chartered Accountant degree in 1982, Mr Shankar also qualified as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) from the USA. Out of a work experience of more than 27 years in Mumbai and Delhi, Mr Shankar has had exposure to accounting, treasury and Corporate Finance functions primarily in IVP Limited, Mumbai and the Max India Group in Delhi. Prior to joining the Aditya Birla Group, he was with the Swiss-Swedish multinational, ABB in Delhi where he was the head of the internal audit function. Mr. Shankar served as a director on the Board of the Global Institute of Internal Auditors for two years during 2006-08, and as a member of the Global IIA Audit Committee. He has also served as a member of an IIA International Committee - Professional Issues Committee – for six years since 2004. He is also associated with IIA India as a member of the Governing Council and was a past President of the Delhi Chapter

Phil Maymin

Dr. Phil Maymin is an Assistant Professor of Finance and Risk Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University. He holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Chicago, a Master's in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University, and a Bachelor's in Computer Science from Harvard University. He also holds a J.D. from Northwestern California University School of Law. He is an award-winning journalist, a policy scholar for a free market think tank, a Justice of the Peace, a columnist for the Fairfield County Weekly and LewRockwell.com, and the author of Yankee Wake Up and Free Your Inner Yankee. He has also been a portfolio manager at Long-Term Capital Management, Ellington Management Group, and his own hedge fund, Maymin Capital Management. He was the 2006 Libertarian candidate for U.S. House of Representatives in Connecticut's fourth Congressional district.

Ravi Mehrotra

Dr. Ravi Mehrotra is the Scientist 'G' & Head at Central Computer Facility at National Physics Laboratory in New Delhi. He has a M.Sc. in Physics from IIT-Delhi and did his Ph.D. in Low Temperature Physics from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland. He was a Visiting Research Physicist at University of California, Santa Barbara, U.S.A. before joining NPL where he has worked as a Scientist for the past 27 years. He has won a number of Awards including First Prize Colloquium for Young Physicists, I.N.S.A. Medal in Indian National Science Academy, Associateship in Indian Academy of Sciences and Raman Research Fellowship from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. He has written a vast number of papers which have gained prominence in the Scientific Community. His latest Project on Development of high efficiency low cost medical diagnostic instruments caught the imagination of Corporates and Researchers across borders.

Neelakantan Jayasankar

Dr. Neelakantan Jayasankar is an officer of the 1992 Batch of the Indian Revenue Service. Post-training, his professional experience within the Direct Taxes Administration has been at Chennai where he has worked- during the years 1994 –2000 in Assessment and Investigation charges and later during the years 2006-2007 in Coordination-cum-Vigilance, TDS and Investigation and at Kochi where he worked during the years 2007–08 in Assessment, International Taxation, Transfer Pricing and Exemptions. He possesses an M.Sc (Tech) in Instrumentation from BITS, Pilani, India and an MBA in Finance, a Masters degree in Economics and a Doctorate in Operations Research, all from the State University of New York at Buffalo, New York, USA. His academic and research interests are in the areas of Revenue Management, Dynamic Pricing, Human Capital Economics, Strategic Planning and Structuring of Training, Academics and Education, Management Science (Quantitative Approaches to Decision Making and Problem Solving), Finance and Derivatives and Intangibles in Valuation. His research in the areas of Revenue Management and Dynamic Pricing and Inventory Management has been presented in conferences held at Denver CO, USA and San Francisco, CA, USA.

Arun Mehta

Arun Mehta is a software writer, lead developer of the Ruby on Rails based platform skid.org.in, which is designed to make it easy to develop new web-based modules to meet the growing communication and educational needs of children, particularly those with mental challenges such as cerebral palsy and autism. His experience in human rights began with 15 years volunteering with Amnesty International, including two as the president of its Indian section. More recently, he has campaigned vigorously for the rights of persons with mental challenges. He has made academic contributions to the addressing of communications issues of persons with autism. He is chairperson of the computer engineering department and a professor, at JMIT Radaur, Haryana, India. He is the founding president of the very recently started Bidirectional Access Promotion Society, bapsi.org, which unites technological, legal and campaign efforts in promoting the ability to communicate, of those who are chronically information poor.

Prateek Singhal

Prateek Singhal is a Computer Science graduate from IIT Kanpur. After graduation, Prateek worked at McKinsey & Company for two years in areas like strategy development, transformation and capability-building. While at McKinsey, Prateek put special focus on serving public sector organizations and governments, and worked on several projects to improve the functioning of government systems. Last year, he left McKinsey to work with the union minister, Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia to help him drive several of his key projects. Prateek is also the first-ever part-time ‘volunteer consultant’ with Technoserve, a renowned global non-profit that focuses on providing business solutions to poverty. Prateek's objective is to transform governments in developing economies, and is planning to join the Harvard Kennedy School of Government later this year.

Dinesh Kapur

Dinesh Kapur is an International Climate Change Champion for the year 2009, selected by TERI and British Council. He has been actively involved in raising awareness on the issues of climate change, sustainable development and the importance of individual action. He has a keen interest in environment conservation, sustainable development and technology solutions. He is currently researching alternative technology solutions for energy generation, using waste. Dinesh has participated and represented the youth at various international and national summits on the themes of climate change, sustainable development and urbanization. His interest and understanding of these issues have helped him win various national and international competitions (symposia and essays) related to these themes. He was selected as an urban habitat fellow for the 1st Habitat Summit. Recently, he was also selected among the top 50 Hindustan Times - Brightest Young Climate Leaders. As a part of this initiative, Dinesh is involved with setting up a carpooling portal for college students. Dinesh Kapur is currently a final year student of Instrumentation and Control Engineering at Bharati Vidyapeeth's College of Engineering, New Delhi. He is a passionate sportsman and an avid debater and quizzer.

Mohit Taneja

Mohit Taneja is a Computer Science, undergraduate student at Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology(NSIT). Along with college, he has also been working as a voluntary game designer with OLPC, and has experience in developing games for a social cause. His areas of interests include artificial intelligence in gaming, social implications of games and intelligent systems in robotics.

Vaishnavi Sundararajan

Vaishnavi Sundararajan is a a senior undergraduate student pursuing her Bachelor's in Engineering in Instrumentation and Control at the Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT), Delhi University, New Delhi. Her undergraduate study so far has been peppered with research forays into various fields, like AI Autobots, Dynamic Scene Modelling, Fractal Modelling, UAV Control, Text Conversion.

Vaibhav+Abhinav Malhotra

CURE is a non-profit organisation dedicated solely towards the elimination of ragging and promotion of more positive ways of interaction among seniors and freshers in Indian universities. CURE has an eye-opening website on ragging at 'http://www.noragging.com/' which draws more than 8000 hits per month. CURE also organizes online counseling of ragging victims, talks at colleges, seminars, events, NGO meets to eradicate the menace of ragging. Recently, CURE has launched a song (Hard To Believe) and a short film (Anarth) to highlight the issue of ragging. Vaibhav and Abhinav, Undergraduate Students at NSIT will represent CURE.
