Theme: The Unturned Pages

With active developments ameliorating the various fields of Technology, Entertainment, Design and many more, there are still a vast number of areas and their activities which are unspoken or unknown to mankind. Keeping in mind this potentiality and the concept of ‘ideas worth spreading’, the organising team of TEDxIITKharagpur has envisaged the theme of “The Unturned Pages”. En route the event, we hope to present the audience with speakers and entertainers from less-explored disciplines as well as unheard news of certain domains. This theme promises to keep the audience captivated and will bring together inspiring personalities, who dared to think different, on a common platform.

Professor Sugata Mitra

Prof. Sugata Mitra is Professor of Educational Technology at the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences at Newcastle University, UK. He is best known for his "Hole in the Wall" experiment, and widely cited in works on literacy and education. He is also Chief Scientist, Emeritus, at NIIT. Mitra has been described as a polymath by the University of London, as his 30 years of research spans a wide range of disciplines

Captain Bana Singh, Param Veer Chakra

One of the few living Param Veer Chakra Awardees, the highest gallantry awarded to armed force personnel. Naib Subedar Bana Singh volunteered to be a member of a task force constituted in June 1987 to clear an intrusion by an adversary in the Siachen Glacier area at an altitude of 21,000 feet. The post was virtually an impregnable glacier fortress with ice walls, 1500 feet high, on both sides. Naib Subedar Bana Singh led his men through an extremely difficult and hazardous route. He inspired them by his indomitable courage and leadership. The brave Naib Subedar and his men crawled and closed in on the adversary. Moving from trench to trench, lobbing hand grenades, and charging with the bayonet, he cleared the post all intruders. Nb Subedar Bana Singh displayed the most conspicuous gallantry and leadership under the most adverse conditions.''

Shubhranshu Choudhary

Shubhranshu Choudhary is a Knight International Journalism Fellow working on a project training citizen journalists in rural India and the founder of CGNet Swara. Choudhary was a BBC South Asia producer for more than 10 years. He also has served as a media trainer for the BBC World Service Trust, the United Nations and Indian universities. He produced the first television coverage of foreign militants operating in Indian Kashmir and conducted the first television interview with the chief commander of the Kashmiri militant organization. He was a TV and radio producer for the BBC’s South Asia bureau for eight years, and a reporter for The Guardian’s South Asia bureau for two years. He was also a reporter for five years at the Hindi-language Daily

Satyajit Bhatkal

His show moved many a heart and tugged at the ear- ducts. He brought out the brazen truths of our society out in the open for us all to see and take notice of. He set a new benchmark for Indian television with a show which dared to challenge the accepted norms. Satyajit Bhatkal is the director of 'Satyameva Jayate'. He left his work in law to join the Television and film industry in his mid-thirties. Part of the core production team of the landmark Hindi movie 'Lagaan'. He is the director of the documentary 'Chale Chalo', whose English cut won a National Award and made it to the Locarno Film Festival. He is also the author of 'The Spirit of Lagaan', a 2003 best-selling book that narrates the making of Lagaan.

Kailash Satyarthi

Kailash Satyarthi is an Indian human-rights activist who has been at the foefront of the global movement to end child slavery and chid labour. After leaving a lucrative career as an Electrical engineer, he has led the rescue of over 78,500 child slaves worldwide. Started the 'Global March against Child Labour', the largest civil society netwrok for exploited children. He has addressed various international conferences like United Nations General Assembly, International Labour Conference, UN Human Rights Commision, UNESCO, etc. There have been numerous attacks on his life during his crusade to end child labour. Undeterred, he continues to light the lives of exploited children. As a global hero, he has received prestigious international awards like Robert.F.Kennedy Human Rights Award, Wallenberg Medal, The Aachener International Peace Award, etc for his courageous humanitarian work.

Mr. Aniruddha Sharma

Named as one of the 'Top 50 Brightest Young Climate Leaders', he heads the leading carbon capture technology firm, Carbon Clear Solutions. The firm works in removing 90% of carbon dioxide from power plants, making them clean. Being the winner in a global carbon capture and storage innovation, this innovative firm is not only helping power plants and large-scale emitters to combat climate change, but is also enabling them to sell captured carbon for making marketable chemicals. Carbon Clear Solutions is betting big to tap the global carbon capture and storage market worth $27 billion.
