x = independently organized TED event

Theme: Ideas in Motion: Shaping the future

This event occurred on
May 28, 2025
Regensburg, Bayern
Germany

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Dennis Faltermeier

Human Resources Generalist
When Dennis Faltermeier woke up from a 3-week coma in January 2009, things looked bad - the then 19-year-old had previously suffered an accident with severe craniocerebral trauma, cerebral haemorrhage and right-sided paralysis. He was 100% dependent on a wheelchair & the help of others and was unable to swallow, speak or think independently - the brain haemorrhage had destroyed large parts of his brain. Today he has studied, got his driving licence again, currently works at a Max Planck Institute, goes to the gym three to four times a week, outruns his father on his bike and simply enjoys the life he can lead again.

Elena Reimchen

Sports scientist
She is a former competitive synchronized swimmer and professionally trained ballet dancer. Motivated by her passion for movement, she decided to study sports science and later health science at the Technical University of Munich. While working as a research assistant, she faced the challenges that prevent people with disabilities from participating in sports. This encouraged her to specialize in inclusive sports, researching how children with and without disabilities learn to swim together. She explored the attitudes of swimming instructors towards inclusion and identified the competencies required to create inclusive swimming courses. Drawing on the determination and endurance she developed in competitive sports, Elena Reimchen is now dedicated to making sports accessible to everyone, regardless of physical and mental abilities. Her work focuses on creating equal opportunities for participation and social interaction through everyday sports, helping to foster a more inclusive society.

Markus Goldhacker

Professor
Markus Goldhacker studied Physics and Psychology at the University of Regensburg, focusing on neuroscience and artificial intelligence. In his PhD, he explored how the synchrony of brain activity changes over time, uncovering hidden patterns and developing new methods to analyze them. He then worked as a Data Scientist at the Neurosurgery Department of the University Hospital of Regensburg, analyzing functional brain scans of brain tumor patients. Later, he worked in the mechanical engineering industry, developing data-driven models for predictive maintenance. Since September 2020, he has been a Professor of Data Science at OTH Regensburg in the mechanical engineering department and the Regensburg School of Digital Sciences. His current research delves into Brain-Computer Interfaces and Neurofeedback, exploring how these technologies can enable people to self-regulate their brain function.

Reinhard Dischner

Manager
As the son of an entrepreneur, Reinhard Dischner (1968) has also inherited this gene. After studying economics in Germany and Spain, he quickly moved into international terrain. He is a manager: Cosmopolitan, with a real knack for people, product and process. He has written company history at PUMA over the last two decades. He made the ‘cat’ cool and took it from the junk table to the catwalk - a huge success story. He is the global local, has travelled to 35 countries and led a multi-cultural team from 25 nations. He always delivers. As the father of two boys, he has experienced the generational leap from baby boomers to generation XYZ first-hand and knows what he's talking about - both professionally and personally. Despite all this, he is one thing above all: human.
