Theme: Empowering the Limitless Mind

TEDxUNIGE is a University event that will be held on the 26 November 2012.

This commitment emerged from the students of the association Cercle HEC. Since nowadays people are required to push the limits of creativity and innovation, we want to give the opportunity to the current and the future generation to exchange opinions and eventually develop its creativity. In a world where information is key, sharing ideas is the starting point of all kind of innovation.

The conference will feature diverse and fascinating speakers from Switzerland who managed to push the limits in their fields and we hope they will inspire you. The event will be followed by a cocktail.

Justin Picard

Justin Picard is Chief Scientist at Advanced Track & Trace in France, where he develops next generation anti-counterfeiting solutions. The disruptive technologies he has invented protect billions of products and documents from counterfeiting and tampering. Justin was nominated as World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer 2009, and has been a member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Illicit Trade since then.

Xavier Morin

Xavier Morin, 21, has been working for 3 years on a personal research project focusing on electric propulsion for turbojets which led to a patent filed in August 2012. Xavier is convinced that thinking outside the box is a powerful tool in problem solving and his project exemplifies it: he aims at offering a green, safe and cost effective propulsion system to the 4.5 billion passengers to be flown by airlines in 2020.

Omar Bawa

Omar Bawa, 20, is the founder and chairman of Endignorance SA, a social enterprise that has developed a new multi-faceted web platform for the social sector. The platform addresses the world’s greatest challenges ranging from climate change to poverty by providing easy access to information and a one-click gateway to opportunities to get involved and make a difference. Omar studied International Humanitarian Law at the IIHL in Italy and is completing his final year of law school at the University of Geneva.

Emanuel Souvairan

Emanuel Souvairan is the director of DevEd, an organization working towards changing attitudes and approaches to education in the developing world through a focus on the delivery of relevant education. Emanuel has worked for non-profits and the United Nations in Afghanistan, India, Switzerland, Uganda and the UK on a series of different humanitarian and development projects.

Natalia Vonlanthen

Natalia Vonlanthen was born in Geneva in October 2002. At the age of 7, she began her piano studies at the Musical Space from Geneva with Florence Melnotte. Since a year, she’s studying piano at the Conservatory of Music in Geneva with Michele Courvoisier. She participates in the Musimax project, intensive courses for young talents. In October 2012, she gave her first public concert at the Salle Centrale de la Madeleine in Geneva.

Toyoko Orimoto

Toyoko Orimoto is an assistant professor of physics at Northeastern University, in Boston, MA. Professor Orimoto’s research focuses on experimental particle physics, aiming to answer fundamental questions about the nature of our universe: Is it possible that there are extra-dimensions of space-time? What new particles or symmetries exist beyond the standard model of particle physics? What is the origin of mass for elementary particles? Prof. Orimoto endeavors to answer such questions as a member of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) Collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, in Geneva, Switzerland.
