"Riptide"는 해안가에서 흔히 발생하는 자연 현상으로, 바다의 표면 아래에서 서로 반대 방향으로 흐르는 두 물살이 만나 강력한 역류를 형성합니다. 이 현상은 표면에서는 잘 보이지 않지만, 그 속에 휩쓸린 사람이나 물체는 갑작스러운 그 힘에 놀랄 수 있습니다. 역류는 바다로부터 해안가로 물을 밀어내며, 이를 거슬러 나아가려 할 때는 상당한 저항을 경험하게 됩니다.

이 비유는 현대 사회에서 겪고 있는 급격한 변화와 매우 유사합니다. 기술의 발전과 사회적 변화는 두 개의 강력한 물살과 같아서, 우리의 삶과 작업 방식을 근본적으로 변화시키는 강력한 역류를 만들어냅니다. 이러한 변화의 역류는 종종 예상치 못한 형태로 나타나며, 우리가 준비되지 않았다면 우리를 당황하게 만들 수 있습니다.

그러나, 'Riptide'에 대한 이해와 적응은 우리에게 중요한 교훈을 제공합니다. 해수욕객들이 역류에 휩쓸리지 않기 위해 해안과 평행하게 수영하는 것처럼, 우리도 변화의 역류를 이해하고, 그 속에서 우리의 방향을 찾아 나가야 합니다. 즉, 변화를 거스르려고 하기보다는 그 흐름을 이해하고, 우리의 이점으로 활용하는 방법을 배워야 합니다.

TEDxAjouU에서는 이 'Riptide'를 넘어서 우리가 어떻게 더 지혜롭고 유연하게 나아갈 수 있는지에 대한 아이디어와 솔루션을 모색합니다. 변화의 격류 속에서 우리의 방향을 재정의하고, 지속 가능하고 포용적인 미래로 나아가기 위한 전략을 공유하는 것이 우리의 목표입니다.

SangEun LEE

IOC Young Leader, Member of the IOC Athletes' Entourage Commission
Founder of ‘The Dream League’, a sport social business project which empowers girls and women through ice hockey. Through this project, she established the first-ever women’s ice hockey league and development programs in the Republic of Korea. The Dream League is supported by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Young Leaders Programme, as Sang Eun represents Korea as a part of the 2021-2024 cohort. She is also serving her role as a member of the Athlete’s Entourage Commission at the IOC. Her passion for sports for good and sports advocacy stemmed from my athletic experience in short-track skating, speed skating, and ice hockey. She was a professional assistant & team host in charge of the Women’s Ice Hockey games at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. She is fully committed to paving a better way for athletes, in terms of inclusivity, safety, and integrity.
