Theme: The Power of Sisterhood

The power of sisterhood lies in the unique bond shared between women, which fosters strength, solidarity, and empowerment. Sisterhood transcends individual differences—race, age, culture, or background—creating a space where women support, uplift, and advocate for one another. It serves as a source of resilience, helping individuals navigate personal challenges and societal barriers, and offering both emotional and practical support.

Sisterhood empowers women to find their voices, express vulnerability, and gain confidence, knowing they are not alone. It has been central to movements for gender equality and social justice, where collective female strength has driven lasting change. By connecting, women can challenge stereotypes, break glass ceilings, and create more inclusive and equitable spaces.

Beyond activism, sisterhood is about celebrating shared joy and success, nurturing growth, and creating lasting relationships. Whether through mentorship, collaboration, or friendship, it inspires women to lift each other and thrive together. At its core, the power of sisterhood is about unity—showing that together, women are unstoppable.

At TEDxBeijing 101 High School Women, speakers dive into "Sisterhood" and discrimination in the past, language, historical figures, politics, sports, computer science, film, and many other fields. We hope to raise "Sisterhood" awareness among students and faculties, and together we build a sisterhood alliance and gender-equal community.

Erica Liu is one of the most successful public speaking and debate coaches in China. Being one of the best Chinese debaters, she has been working on the arts of expression for 10 years. Now, she's the founder and manager of an independent educational institute named "Keyspeak".

Yuncheng (Katie) Zhang is a strong leader and dedicated feminist, committed to making a meaningful impact by challenging stereotypes and empowering others. As captain of the Wild Geese Ultimate Frisbee Club and the BE Club, she leads with determination, fostering teamwork and development among her peers. A talkative and proactive student, Yuncheng seizes every opportunity, excelling in both her classes and competitions. Central to her identity is her passion for feminism, as she aims to break gender norms and make a difference as a future lawyer advocating for women’s rights. Outside of academics, she enjoys cycling, exploring nature, and discovering new restaurants and cafés, embodying a balance of leadership, advocacy, and curiosity.

Martin Wu

Martin Wu is a driven Political Science student with a focused interest in International Relations (IR). His journey into IR began with analyzing ongoing political events and global conflicts while participating in various essay contests with commendations received. Martin furthered his knowledge by completing leadership programs at Brown University and summer college at Georgetown University, gaining a comprehensive and deeper understanding of political theory and IR. Beyond academics, Martin’s dedication to community service led him to engage and organize Model United Nations events in Beijing, providing him with valuable leadership and public service experience. In his free time, Martin enjoys working out at the gym and playing soccer with his friends.

Miffy Niu

Talkative, is how you describe Miffy. She is always willing to communicate with others, and she is always eager to stand on the stage to share her ideas with the crowd. Instead of trying to achieve approval, it is better to describe her intention as finding people who acquired the ability to listen. Communication is the most essential way that she can find a connection to the world. For her, language can be described as the sound of countless leaves dancing in the wind, the color of a wheat field becoming a sunset as far as the eye can see, the greatest meaning of one’s existence. Someone spoke in the middle of a rainstorm, and countless beating hearts resonated with it. For her, the world is a vast and absurd painting, and language is the color that breaks free of the limit.

Ruby is a student at Beijing 101 High School International Department and serves as the class monitor for Class Jackson. She has a deep affection for her cat, whom she adores. Known for her sense of humor, creativity, and easygoing personality, Ruby has taken on leadership roles in several student organizations, including the student council. She is particularly passionate about politics and philosophy, and she expresses this through a personal growth class she runs called Philosophy+X. Ruby invites anyone interested in thoughtful debates to join her discussions. Additionally, she is an active participant in Model United Nations (MUN) and encourages others to get involved. Stephanie Chang is a driven, non-typical ENTJ with a passion for neuroscience and cognitive psychology. She prefers the title "boss" over "girl boss," emphasizing that strength transcends gender. After attending Brown University's Women and Leadership program, Stephanie deepened her commitment to female empowerment and social issues. As the founder and director of the Caring Minds 101 division, she advocates for adolescent mental health, balancing leadership with article writing and exhibition planning. She also leads art therapy activities, believing in creativity's healing power. Additionally, as a head of Echo, a biology platform, she fosters collaboration among students across disciplines like zoology and brain science. Overall, Stephanie is the kind of leader who will make the world a better place, whether through her passion, her ambitions, or the strength she has gained along the way."

Terrence Sun

Informational Techonology & AP Computrer Science Principles Teacher, Content Team Leader

Mr. Sun currently serves as the AP Computer Science Principles teacher in the international department at Beijing 101 High School and is the leader of the Computer Science content team. He has also taught the A-level Computer Science course and is the instructor for the photography elective. He is dedicated to using innovative teaching methods to help students explore the impact of technology on their learning and lives, while actively integrating artificial intelligence tools and techniques to support his teaching. Additionally, he serves as the homeroom teacher for the Accelerated Class, and Du Bois class. Outside of work, Mr. Sun is a photography enthusiast, using his camera to capture the beautiful moments in life. He also has a distinct sense of personal style, particularly favoring brands such as Ted Baker, Paul Smith, and Burberry, which reflect his unique fashion taste.

Violetta Mo

Violetta is fueled by an unyielding ambition, always setting firm goals and a clear direction that drives her to constantly push beyond her limits. She is a passionate idealist who loves life, believing deeply in light and beauty, even when faced with adversity. Her spirit is like a flame, bright and unbreakable, guiding her through every challenge. She longs to stand on the stage, to let the world witness the strength of women who fight through the darkness and walk boldly through life's thorns. For Violetta, the stage is a place to celebrate resilience and tenacity, to show that strength comes not from perfection but from perseverance. Yoyo Du from year 11, class 19, is an active thinker who loves to explore new knowledge. She has always been passionate about Law and Policy and committed to studying the subject in depth. Her interest in gender equality and gender issues was piqued when she explored some of these affirmative action cases. As a creative thinker and speaker, she will bring us some new perspectives on sisterhood and contribute to the creation of a more inclusive and equal world.
