Washtenaw Community College (WCC) is thrilled to announce the hosting of its licensed TEDx event, TEDxWCC, on Thursday, April 11th, 2024, under the inspiring theme "Power of Perspective". This event promises innovation, creativity, and insight, aiming to bring together diverse perspectives to share unique ideas worth spreading.

5:30 PM: Student Poster Presentations and Live Improvisational Performances
6:30 PM: Main Stage Event with Dynamic Speakers also available on Zoom with Free College Week at WCC.

Experience the Power of Perspective
ON-CAMPUS ONLY: The evening will kick off at 5:30 PM with an engaging display of student poster presentations alongside live, interactive improvisational performances. This prelude to the main stage event allows attendees to immerse themselves in the creativity and ingenuity of the WCC community, setting the stage for the ideas that will unfold.

ON-CAMPUS and ZOOM: At 6:30 PM, the spotlight shifts to the main stage, where dynamic speakers will take the iconic TEDx red circle carpet to share their powerful and transformative ideas. For approximately an hour, these speakers will delve into a broad spectrum of topics, all under the umbrella of this year's theme, "Power of Perspective". This is a unique opportunity to explore how different viewpoints can lead to innovation, understanding, and change.

Emanuel Terrell owns Piedmont Blue Enterprise LLC, specializing in portrait, lifestyle, branding, and editorial photography and videography since 2017. Emanuel manages The Entrepreneurship Center (The EC) at Washtenaw Community College providing resources, mentorship, and funding opportunities for entrepreneurs. An Eastern Michigan University Alum ('16) and Build Institute Alumni, Emanuel enjoys meeting new clients in his business and helping them portray their authentic self and helping them capture their monumental achievements.

Entrepreneur, Speaker, Author, and Coach with roots in the NFL

Keaka Cagle

Student, Artist, Performer

Keaka Cagle, a feminist student at Washtenaw Community College, embraces a rich heritage as a native Hawaiian and Melungeon, celebrating the diversity of a multi-racial identity. As a māhu, they navigate the world as a two-spirited individual with a unique cultural perspective on gender that diverges from Western norms, embodying the values and complexities of being a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Keaka's journey and advocacy illuminate the importance of understanding and honoring the intersectionality of human identity.

Lex Moore

College Student focused on Film and Business Studies

Alexa (Lex) Moore is a film and business student passionate in gender equality and social change. She graduated from University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s in English Education and is ecstatic to be furthering her educational opportunities at WCC. Her drive for social change has taken her all over the world, where she was able to see how cultural differences lead to remarkable conversations. Her presentation will build upon her personal experiences with being a woman in America in parallelism to a Barbie doll.

Marcus Jones

From Homeless to homeowner by the age of 25, Mindset Mover Marcus Jones has found that you can fix any problem that you may be facing by simply challenging it with Facts, Proof, & Evidence while chasing new experiences & exposure to the unfamiliar! This tested, tried and proven approach is a powerful strategy to challenge and change any negative or destructive mindset!

Marion Watson

College student majoring in Film and Screenwriting

Marion Watson is a driven college student majoring in film and screenwriting. Raised in Northern Michigan, she has been writing and recording the stories she finds within nature and people alike from an early age. Studying languages and the arts, her interests have taken her as far as Hiroshima, Japan. She is devoted to encouraging connection and empathy through words and intends to inspire others to strive for the same.

Valenna Malone

College Student majoring in Biology

Valenna Malone is a biology student at Washtenaw Community College. She is passionate about art and how it can create and foster new avenues of thinking. Her presentation will explore how horror film is an art form that allows us to explore our inner anxieties and psyche.
