We are organising the first ever TEDxBelvedere College will take place on the 14th of May from 17:30 - 21:00. This is an official collaboration with TED in which 8 talented speakers will present their areas of expertise and experience. We would greatly recommend attending TEDxBelvedere. The future of music may not be something that you've ever thought about but Dr. Dunne who is 3D printing violins at a much more affordable cost may be able to pique your interest. If science isn't your cup of tea, our very own student Barra McCluskey will be discussing what exactly a social contract is and if it's worth the blind trust.

Barra McCluskey

Student

Barra McCluskey is a 5th Year student at Belvedere College S.J.. He has partaken in a variety of programmes and events both in Ireland and abroad, covering a wide variety of topics. He has a keen interest in politics and philosophy, having studied both and worked on programs that were oriented around these topics. He recently travelled to Belgium as part of the Irish delegation for the Western Europe Model European Parliament. His talk will cover the concept of the social contract, an idea discussed by well-known philosophers that include Thomas Hobbes and John Locke. He will discuss how the social contract has come to be, how it aims to aid those who obey it and its shortcomings.

Conor Wynne Walsh

Conor Wynne Walsh is committed to the improvement of self & contribution to the happiness of others. He holds a B.Sc. (Honors) in sport science & health from Dublin City University and is currently the head of Athletic Development & Games master in Belvedere College S.J., Dublin. The promotion of health (mind, body & spirit) is something he is truly passionate about.

Damien Clarke

Psychologist

Dr. Damien Clarke is a Counselling Psychologist and Corporate Wellbeing Expert with a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology from Trinity College Dublin. He is the co-founder of Zeminar, the world's largest health and well-being conference for young people. Damien currently works with Meta as part of their Psychological Health Team. He is passionate about wellbeing and mental health and has a particular interest in Dr Claire Weekes and her work which has helped millions to overcome anxiety.

David Levin

Mum’s favorite poet

David Levin is a writer, tone-of-voice specialist and agency founder who started his career as an intern at MTV (making tea for popstars and boybands) before becoming an in-house writer at the music channel for several years. He wrote for a number of magazines, brands and a Digital Emmy award-winning YouTube channel before setting up a Twitter account for his local pub in east London which gained a cult following, won Time Out's Social Account of the Year and led to him accidentally becoming the UK's first professional tweeter. Soon after, David co-founded a social media agency, That Lot, which hired platform specialists and ran feeds for the likes of Spotify, Amazon, Red Bull and Have I Got News for You. A regular speaker at events such as Social Media Week and The Guardian's social media masterclass, David is fascinated by the power of words and original content formats. He's also his mum's favourite poet.

Helen Walsh

Life and Health Coach

Helen Walsh is an International Life and Health Coach and one of Ireland’s leading Wellness experts and Trainer. Her portfolio of clients include some of the biggest names from entertainment, politics, media and business. Helen is best known for motivating and supporting thousands of people to achieve their individual goals in all aspects of their lives. Helen has extensive experience in Fitness, Psychology, Coaching, Cognitive behavioral therapy and Counselling

James Whelan

Student

James Whelan is a 5th year student at belvedere college with a keen interest in both public speaking and theoretical physics. He recently debated in the Oxford union and has a lot of experience in both debating and public speaking. His love for the sciences is no less, however, as he completed a 3 week programme in the university of Pennsylvania which focused on chemistry, and has taken every chance he gets, through programmes or otherwise to learn more about how the world works. His talk will cover some Einstein’s theory of special relativity, as it was the first theory that sparked his love for physics, and he thinks it fitting to be the topic of his talk, and hopes to maybe spark this same love in some of the audience in doing so.

Sarah Dunne

Professor

Sarah Dunne is a musician, artist and educator working in Ireland. With a background in Music and Fine Art, Dunne works across two fields of practice, fusing sound and spatial relationships. She completed a PhD in 2012 through GradCAM and NCAD. In 2017 she completed a second MA in Music Education at TCD focusing on the altermodernist turn within music pedagogy. Dunne is a secondary school teacher in Belvedere College Dublin. She lectures on the Diploma in Community Music at the RIAM. Sarah is an editor at Interference, a trans-disciplinary online journal in association with GradCAM.
