Ashok Kumar Singh, a stick artist of extraordinary skill-set, is a legendary ex-Indian hockey player. He was born on June 1, 1950 to the legendary Major Dhyan Chand. Ashok Kumar Singh, subsequent to the exceptional talent, great skill-set, unmatchable speed and deft ball control, was an absolute delight to watch. He represented India in several international tournaments including the World Cup and the Olympic Games. He was the first Indian to represent the Indian hockey team at four World Cups. Moreover, in 1975, he led India to its only World Cup victory by scoring the winning goal against Pakistan. In 1974, he was conferred the eminent Arjuna Award, the second-highest honour for outstanding performance in sports and games, by the Government of India. In 2024, he was conferred the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest recognition for a lifetime contribution to sports and games, by the Government of India.
