Theme: Rise Again

We are excited to invite students from the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) and the wider community to join us for TEDxUoNMalaysia 2024. Building on the success of our events in 2018 and 2022, this year's theme, "Rise Again," celebrates the transformative power of resilience.

This event, organised by a passionate group of students in collaboration with the UNM Buddhist Society and Students' Association Office, aims to highlight diverse voices and tackle pressing issues. Inspired by the belief in the life-changing impact of a powerful 18-minute talk, the goal is to present "Ideas Worth Spreading" to local and global audiences.

Aida Ghani Quilter

Conservation & Biodiversity Manager, SD Guthrie

Aida graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology from UPM in 2004. She later completed her Master of Research at Nottingham University, Malaysia, focusing on human-elephant conflict within oil palm plantation landscapes. With over 16 years of experience in the palm oil industry, Aida has dedicated her career to managing biodiversity and conservation projects within SD Guthrie’s operating areas, contributing significantly to sustainable development in the sector.

Bhante Mangala

Meditation Teacher

Bhante is a meditation teacher and truth-seeker who holds an LLB (Hons) degree from the University of Malaya. With his deep understanding of natural laws and the profound concept of rebirth, Bhante guides individuals on a transformative journey towards liberation and peace of mind.

Chee Xian Chuah (Sai)

Social media content creator and co-founder of Wabikong Productions Sdn Bhd

Born and raised in Penang, Chee Xian Chuah or better known as Sai is a social media content creator and co-founder of Wabikong Productions Sdn Bhd. He studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the Ashikaga Institute of Technology in Japan and is now using his creative talents to produce engaging content that celebrates Malaysian culture and heritage.

Christopher Mathews Jacob

Host | Creator | Co-Founder, Sudu on The Street

Chris is a former engineer turned content creator and TV host who is also a UNM alumni. Known for street interviews and comedy-filled content through his company ChrisMJ enterprise, he inspires others to pursue their passion and live life to the fullest.

Dr Aevent Koh

Licensed Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Dr. Koh is a licensed counsellor in Malaysia with over 8 years of experience. He is an expert in existential-humanistic psychotherapy, helping clients empower themselves while educating the public about mental health.

Dr John Chan Kok Meng

Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Clinical Head of Surgical Services at CVSKL

Dr. John Chan is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Clinical Head of Surgical Services at CVSKL Hospital and is part of the College of Surgeons Academy of Medicine of Malaysia. With extensive clinical practice in heart and lung surgeries, he is passionate about training future surgeons.

Jowin Goh

CEO of Nibou Industries

Jowin is the CEO of Nibou Industries, a company that operates in two business divisions: automation and food and beverage. She is passionate about innovation and leadership, which led to her receiving the ‘World Young Woman Excellent Achievement Award’ at the World Women Economic & Business Summit 2023.

Joyline Chai

Co-Founder of Global Hemisphere Group Sdn Bhd

Joyline Chai is a leading sustainability advocate and entrepreneur from Malaysia, driving ESG initiatives and promoting the UN's SDGs. As Executive Chairman and CEO of Global Hemisphere Group, she helps businesses adopt sustainable practices and serves as Vice President of the ESG Association of Malaysia. Joyline is also active with the Penang Green Council, speaks at major forums like the Malaysia SDG Summit, and holds leadership roles in community-focused organisations.

Shi Han Pang

Co-Founder of Human Edition

Shi Han is the co-founder of @human_edition, a storytelling platform that uncovers the stories of fascinating individuals across Malaysia. The platform was inspired by Shi Han's personal journey through a period of feeling lost and uncertain about the future. Alongside partner J, Shi Han began by interviewing people on Langkawi Island, crafting their stories into concise 1-minute reels. Today, storytelling has evolved into their main profession.

Tiffani Lim

Esports athlete, manager, and referee

Tiffani is an esports athlete, manager, and referee. She manages the national women's esports team and advocates passionately for the rights of esports athletes, as well as the greater participation of women in the world of esports.
