As our world becomes increasingly characterized by differences, boundaries may serve to limit, protect, or control, but it's crucial to build bridges and celebrate unity. TEDx Borrowdale celebrates limitless possibilities, aiming to inspire innovative ideas and drive improvement through creation, connection, and growth. Our minds create significant obstacles in our lives, and the constant struggle to break these barriers is what makes a man.
Breaking boundaries is a daily theme in science, medicine, and engineering, with individuals pushing for radical change in societies worldwide. Humans are uniquely positioned to break these boundaries, pushing harder and farther until the limits of imagination become established reality. The event will explore this theme in three sessions: challenging assumptions, exploring new perspectives, and hearing from those who have broken boundaries and pushed the limits of the planet. This will help instil humility and encourage further exploration and innovation.

Chioniso Tsikisayi

Chioniso Tsikisayi is an award winning writer, performer, poet and playwright from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe whose primary mediums of expression are through spoken word, music, dance and storytelling. She took first runner up for the 65th Kenya Poetry Slam Africa Contest. Her work has been featured in Brittle Paper, Isele Magazine, The Kalahari Review, Ipikai Poetry Journal , Agbowó art, AFREADA, Intwasa Short Stories Volume Two, Imbiza Journal for African Writing, Tesserae; a mosaic of poems by Zimbabwean women. In 2022, her debut play, A Woman Has Two Mouths was shortlisted for the African Women Playwrights Network Festival of Plays held in Accra, Ghana. She won the Canopus Award 2023 for excellence in interstellar writing in the Original Local Short Form Fiction Category for her short story "Gumbojena." She won the Ibua Bold Continental Call for Climate Change, Poetry category and the 2023 Roil Bulawayo Arts Award for Outstanding Poet of the Year. She is a Creative Writing Alumnus of the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study.

Christine Mutsau

She is the Managing Director and co-founder of Prestige Immigration Services based in Pretoria SA. She is a South African Admitted Attorney, with more than 15 years of SA immigration law experience. With a master’s degree in international law, having worked with many clients in the immigration space over the years and being exposed to the different legal systems of the world, she is very passionate about migration laws, not only in SA but the world over.

Douglas Remhunga

From Process Engineer to Eco-Innovator: Transforming Waste into Opportunity. My journey began as a chemical engineer, designing and optimizing systems for various industries at TN Holdings. But my passion lies in building a sustainable future, tackling environmental challenges like waste management head-on. Fueled by this passion, I co-founded Rehmsplast Investments, a company turning plastic waste into durable pavers. This innovative approach not only reduces waste but also provides a cost-effective and eco-friendly solution for construction needs. In 2023, my dedication to finding solutions earned me recognition at the Falling Walls Lab Zimbabwe. My proposal – using waste aluminum to combat acid mine drainage – secured victory and the opportunity to represent my nation at the global stage in Berlin. Connecting with fellow innovators and leaders solidified my belief in collaboration. I actively seek partnerships to share knowledge and create positive change. Engineering, for me, extends beyond a profession. It's a way of life, a lens through which I strive to solve problems and build a better world.

Dr Solomon Guramatunhu

Dr. Solomon Guramatunhu has over 30 years of business experience and is a leading renowned and respected Ophthalmic Surgeon in Zimbabwe and internationally and a seasoned businessman and philanthropist.. His working career has seen him working for Ministry of Health in Zimbabwe holding various senior positions amongst others: Chief Government Ophthalmic Surgeon, Head of Sekuru Kaguvi Eye Unit. He has also worked in Zimbabwe for Greenwood Eye centre, University of Zimbabwe as an Honorary Lecturer, Bindura State University of Science Education, Eyes for Africa Project which he founded which offers free cataract surgeries to rural people in Zimbabwe and surrounding countries. His international work experience has been with Glasgow Group of Hospitals in Scotland, Honorary lecturer at the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Antony Chinhara

Dr Chinhara is the pioneer specialist in the field of Orthodontics in Zimbabwe. Since 1997 his practice has been dedicated to the provision of Specialist Orthodontic care to the nation. Dr Chinhara started his career in Healthcare as a Biomedical Scientist and obtained a Master’s degree in Biomedical Science from Northeastern University, Boston in 1989. He later changed path and enrolled for Dental School at Boston University, Goldman School of Dental Medicine, graduating with honours in 1994. He received several awards during Dental school that include the American College of Dentists award for outstanding performance and professionalism as a student, the Pierre Fauchard Academy award of merit in Dentistry, as well as being elected into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society. In addition, he became a Kellogg fellow under the Kellogg Foundation dedicated to the development of professional leaders worldwide. After dental school, he then completed a residency / postgraduate training program in Orthodontics at Vanderbilt University, Nashville U.S.A in 1997. Dr Chinhara maintains active membership with the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), and is recognised as an AAO ambassador for global support and advancement of the specialty of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. He is also a member of the Zimbabwe Dental Association (ZIDA), Zimbabwe Society of Orthodontists (ZISO) and the South African Society of Orthodontists (SASO).

Mojy Sadri

Mojy Sadri is an engineer, mother, author, teacher, and advocate of animal rights. When she learned about the harsh way animals were treated in the food, agriculture, cosmetic and drug industry, she decided to do something about it. After researching, reading articles, watching interviews, and connecting with the scientists who are against animal testing, she realized that ending suffering for animals is a choice that every single person can make by paying attention to what they buy. Her passion for animal welfare also inspired her to write her first children’s story, To Be Free, where she educates children about the importance of animal’s natural habitats.
