Since Aristotle and Plato began discussing education in ancient Athens, curiosity, creativity and critical thinking have been considered essential to learning. And we now know that diversity is a critical component of the educational process. And yet. There is resistance.
This year’s theme will encourage curiosity about issues of diversity, equity and critical thinking in an effort to transform resistance. We believe diversity is critical to thinking. Our speakers will challenge the resistance – what if accepted wisdom is wrong? What happens when a person refuses to be defined by a single story? What if cutting down rainforests actually increases bio-diversity? Our speakers will address broad issues of diversity and critical thinking with a lens focused on preaching beyond the proverbial choir, exploring the plurality of excellence, and challenging paradigms of diversity with a curiosity of mind and spirit.
