Theme: Why Not?

This event occurred on

"Why Not?" means: People often dare not do various things because of too much worry, and always ask themselves doubtfully "Why do they do this?", but why not ask themselves Why not? "Why not do it?" "
For those of us who are in our youth, it is our first time to try many things, but perhaps because we are not familiar with them, we are often hesitant and it is a pity that we cannot take the first step. At the same time, being unable to define oneself is a situation that many students are deeply troubled by. They often feel panic about this and don't know what they should do in the future. Is it necessary to understand yourself and give yourself a definition in order to truly "be yourself" and become an ideal adult?

Adam Wang 王耀德

KCISLK MUN Student Advisor/ LINMUN 2024 Secretary General
My participation in Model United Nations (MUN) over the last five years has had a profound impact on me as a typical Taiwanese high school student. My interest in biology as well as other disciplines like chemistry and business was sparked by my participation in many MUN conferences, which also made me aware of the necessity of healthcare on a worldwide scale. I became more interested in biology by competing in an international genetic engineering competition after being inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) addressed by MUN. We created a promising probiotic platform with potential real-world applications by working with knowledgeable teachers and outstanding peers. My choice to pursue a biology-related degree in college was cemented by this encounter.

My language learning journey has been a fascinating blend of academic exploration and personal pursuit, and I see it as a mission to share the joy of language learning.

Kai Jean Hsiao 蕭楷真

Yale MUN assistant director
I was in the states for four years before I came back to Taiwan in grade 8 where I began to pick up my Chinese skills again. I would say I'm extremely extroverted and I enjoy socializing quite a lot even in unfamiliar environments. It's one of the reasons I've taken interest in MUN for over four years now. On top of this, being able to communicate verbally, whether it is in front of an audience or a few individuals is a skill I'm quite confidence with. This is another reason that has pushed me to join debate and other means of public forum speaking. Seeing the opportunity to become a student speaker is something I'm entirely excited for as i've always wanted to have my own TEDx talk speech. Growing up, my dad has showed me countless of tedtalks and i've always been inspired to make one that can voice my ideas for others out there.

Midori Wang 王芷薰

Highschool Junior, Founder of Verbe Official, Founder of Global Business Gathering
I founded and manage Verbe Official, an athletic apparel brand, that sells in 8+ countries and generated 200,000 NTD in revenue over 6 months. I also initiated a non-profit that holds business seminars and spreads business knowledge on multiple media with more than 1100 followers. I am the host and founder of TEDxAAIA youth, which you may wonder the reason for my signing up. I started TEDxAAIA Youth because of my love for meaningful and motivational speeches; however, the working team is not allowed to speak at their own event. Thus, I am here! I enjoy horseback riding, listening to R&B and hip-hop, and telling bad jokes to make my friends feel awkward in my free time. I have published a book about starting your own business in seven steps as a high schooler. I also have experience interning at a stock company for two months. Lastly, I have recently been featured in China Daily.

Violet Liu劉語涵

Founder of VISACAM
There's nothing simpler than the reason I started VISACAM: I want to meet people who have the same interests as me. I like KPOP. I dance to KPOP, film KPOP, and talk about KPOP. This is where I combine my interests in dance choreography and video production. I started a filming studio, earned NTD40K in revenue, completed 40 film projects, and directed marketing strategies and customer management on social media. Hey, let me give a quick fade-to-black transition over here. All the achievements I mentioned above are like a plant’s shoots, and what’s underneath the ground are roots that no one sees until the dirt gets dug. Camera shutting down, missing files, getting sued for overpriced refunds: my journey faced failures and challenges, but also breakthroughs and growth. Being eager to rethink, start over, and move on is a type of resilience that I know will strengthen my ability to solve problems in the future, a chance I wouldn't have had if I hadn't started VISACAM. So Why Not?
