Lt. Cdr. Aishwarya Boddapati

Lt. Cdr. Aishwarya Boddapati, hailing from Hyderabad, is a distinguished officer in the Indian Navy, known for her role in the all-women crew aboard the Navy’s ocean-going sailing boat, MHADEI. A metallurgical engineer by training, Aishwarya’s journey to the Navy began with a stint at the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), working on ballistic missile components. Inspired to be on the user side of defense technology, she joined the Navy, initially serving in the technical division responsible for maintaining and repairing warships in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Her passion for adventure led her to volunteer for an all-women sailing expedition. Selected in February 2015, she joined the adventure team in March 2016. In Cochin, she received training in the basics of sailing and later sailed to Mauritius, gaining invaluable hands-on experience. Despite initial family resistance, her determination and adventurous spirit won over, convincing her parents after a short sail off Goa. Aishwarya and her crew are preparing for the Cape to Rio race and aim to circumnavigate the world in 2017 on a new vessel, TARINI. An avid adventurer, she also aspires to become a skydiving instructor in the future.
