The theme of TEDXYouth@CapeTown 2012 calls on youth from around Cape Town to relate their intellect, loves and actions towards how these have shaped and will continue to steer their unique path in Africa. The primary focus of the event is to provide a platform for youth to converse with their peers –to showcase the diverse thoughts, passions and actions of youth that are actively living their AIM.
In the spirit of TEDx this event will celebrate the diversity of ideas and personalities and provide a space for youth from different areas around Cape Town to engage in thought provoking questions around the theme of AIM: Africa In Me.
Youth across the world are raising their voices in a unique way – from political activism, environmental warriors and social justice seekers to performance poets, writers and artists reclaiming urban spaces. Through TEDxYouth@CapeTown we will aim to bring together the youth Thinkers.Lovers.Doers in Cape Town.
The positioning of the date for TEDxYouth@CapeTown 2012, 26 May, also provides a background for the theme. The event is positioned between two uniquely relevant days of celebration – Africa Liberation Day on 25 May and Youth Day on 16 June.
Through the support of theme related imagery we will ask the questions:
Do you have an AIM in you? A unique AIM for Africa and South Africa?
How are you Thinking.Loving.Doing to build a greater future on this continent full of potential?
How can we engage to celebrate every youth’s piece of Africa In Me?
TEDxYouth@CapeTown 2012 aims to be one tiny step en route to achieving a value system – to allow youth from all backgrounds to take collective action to achieve a deep connection with themselves, each other and nature. This must happen in school, in our homes, at universities and in communities.
Youth have the power to be the change they want to see in their continent – TEDxYouth@CapeTown aims to help them realise and live this potential.
