In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Kemp Battle

Kemp Battle engages in deep dialogue with leaders and change agents about how they choose to show up in the world. Leaders at every level are often lonely because they feel the pressure of trying to be what people need them to be. As a strategic advisor and investment banker for decades, Battle tries to understand the steep demands of business strategies and tactics. As a human being, however, dedicated to learning about himself and others, he is compelled by the ways we elect to bring our personal selves to our work. Battle graduated with honors from Harvard University, though he walked across America for almost 18 months interrupting (and amplifying) his college education. He was an editor in publishing for Doubleday and St,. Martin' s Press and went on to serve as an investment banker and strategic advisor for the next 30 years. His consulting clients include Smithsonian, the National Geographic, PBS, Pearson, Cengage, DNA Direct, SNHU, Northeastern University, Harvard Extension School, among many others. He did leadership development for Leaders Quest out of London for 8 years in marginalized communities around the world. Battle has been a hospice volunteer for more than 20 years and completed 5 months training in India around community hospice work. He also studied with Thich Nhat Hahn in Plum Village and Sogyal Rinpoche (Tibetan Book of Living and Dying).

In 2017, Olszewski’s world was turned upside down by domestic violence at the hands of a fellow service member with a 20-year history of violence, events which compelled her to open up her life as a survivor and speak publicly about the extensive failures by the organizations and system she once cherished. Olszewski’s 2019 Congressional testimony on military domestic violence led her case to become nationally recognized. Since her testimony, she has continued speaking publicly to law enforcement organizations, Department of Defense personnel,, and communities on leadership failures surrounding violent crimes, adversity and moral courage, and her love affair with coming back bigger than before. She has been featured on CBS, National Public Radio, HuffPo, Fox News, Australian Broadcasting Corporation, The Hill, Discovery, USAToday, Vetrepreneur Magazine, and NBC. When not collaborating on the next best thing in business or writing, Olszewski works with several veteran, community and animal welfare organizations, enjoys filmmaking and dirt trails, and always makes time for family and baseball.

Nicholas Rinella

Nicholas Rinella started his student career with the intent of entering the clinical field. He has experience working as an LNA, as a clinical research coordinator, and shadowing many doctors from various specialties. Seeing how many people Rinella would not be able to help if he decided to continue studying clinical medicine is what motivated him to switch career paths and enter the medical research industry. He now has his master’s in industrial biomedical science, enabling him to perform tasks like growing cells and tissues. Rinella has worked as a laboratory supervisor for the Microbiology Team at DEKA R&D for a hemodialysis machine. He’s currently an associate scientist working at ARMI BioFabUSA.
