In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

My name is Berke Tüzemen, I am currently an IB DP student in Eyüboğlu High School aiming to major in mechanical engineering at university. My friends would describe me as extroverted, determined, talkative and a little stubborn from time to time. My interests cover a lot of topics, ranging from coding to sociology. Giving a Ted Talk has always been a dream of mine, so I’m really proud to be taking the first step by giving a TEDx speech at my school. Moreover, I get to do this in the context of something I’m passionate about: art.

I’m interested in politics, philosophy, psychology, and sociology. Reading and talking about literature is something I do regularly. I wish to study International Law in the Netherlands.

I am Ece Baysa and I’m an IBDP student in Eyüboğlu College. I have been doing ballet since I was five years old. As I grew up, my journey with art didn’t remain limited to just dancing. I love engaging with various types of media, from movies to literature. I enjoy learning more about the meaning behind art pieces and the journeys of the artists behind them. I was deeply inspired by many TEDx talks as I wandered through life. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to inspire others, as many did before me. Through my talk, I hope to have an impact on the viewer’s perspective of life and what it takes to produce art.

My name is Karin Şen Cankan. I’m a 51-year-old full time mom, and have recently retired after 22 years of a vibrant career. When I was 4 my parents moved to the States, until university my whole study life was in LA, California. I graduated from Pepperdine College FeedBacks of Law History, received a law degree, but never had a chance to practice law since we returned to my homeland. After living here in Istanbul, I started working for an international London based engineering consulting firm, which had 55 offices in 25 countries all around the world. After my daughter Talya was born, I left my job when she was 7 months old. Started my own business in 2008, I bought an İtalian bespoke brand İl Papiros and became their Istanbul branch emissary until 2012.

My name is Nisan, I am an 11th grader in Eyüboğlu High School and I am in the IB DP programme. I'm interested in arts, specifically acting. My dream is to study dramatic arts as a minor in university. I am also interested in music and dance too, I used to dance and played the piano for 6 years. This TEDx event gave me an opportunity to overcome my fear of public speaking and to express my love for art.

After graduating from Marmara University in 1992, I started teaching English in private schools in İstanbul and since 2008, I have been working at Eyüboğlu Educational Institutions. My story in Eyüboğlu is rather different. Aside from teaching English, my focus became more on Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay and after becoming the Diploma Program Coordinator, I also coordinate CAS. I have started delivering opening speeches in TOK conferences and that might have caught some attention. I am interested in travelling and see it as a lifestyle. Intercultural activities also attract me. I am an avid reader and enjoy short texts in Art and Science. I would like to keep myself up-to-date about the world so I have social media accounts as well and they have started to take some of my time.

I am a 30 year old Motswana man who came to Turkey in pursuit of something special. I have found what I have been looking for in this extraordinary country, which is why I have been living here for 10 years now. My adventure in Turkey has led me into various avenues, and one of those is my teaching career. I am currently working as an English teacher at Eyuboglu college. I am passionate about learning about new cultures and meeting people that have had different experiences than mine. I believe that it is a great privilege to be able to experience someone else's culture.
