Hello and welcome to TEDxSunsetBeach Youth, a local, self-organized event that brings you the best ideas from Vancouver’s young and brilliant minds. We are thrilled to have you here at the Annex, a vibrant and versatile performance venue in downtown Vancouver. The Annex is part of the Vancouver Civic Theatres, which also includes the Orpheum Theatre, the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, and the Vancouver Playhouse. The Annex can host a variety of events, from dance and musical performances to receptions and rehearsals. The Annex has a flexible seating capacity of 191, and can be transformed from a flat-floor to a tiered theatre space. The Annex also features adjustable acoustics, telescoping seating, and interchangeable black and red drapes.

Alannah Lori

Musician + Holistic Fitness Specialist
Alannah is a jazz singer and songwriter from Paris, France. She studied Kung-Fu, Tai Chi and Qi-Gong at the American Church in Paris under Master Tran Kinh. Once in Vancouver, she pursued her passion for music and movement, playing jazz and teaching fitness. The holistic fitness technique she has developed is a synthesis of all her background from which she has distilled the elements she loves most to create efficient, safe, and meaningful movement infused with mindfulness.

Elaine Li

Hi everyone! I’m Elaine, and I am currently a senior highschool-er. Over my highschool years, I have spent lots of time interviewing over 30 mathematicians in North America, hoping to expand my podcast candidates to Asia in the future. I’m excited to share what I learned from my first hand-experience regarding the lens through math education. There are so many distinct ways of how mathematics could be taught despite that math is an international, unified language. In this talk I would like to share how math could be perceived from a different angle such as on matters from my individual take on math education , apart from our common stereotypical thoughts of mathematics associated with competitions or number calculations.

Eric Tao Xie

Eric is an IB student at West Vancouver Secondary School. Since coming from China in Grade 8 as an International Student, he’s been focused on self-improvement, both in academic excellence and public speaking. Outside of school, he leads his school chess club for 120+ students, and organizes tournaments. As well, Eric participates in VEX Robotics, where his team made it to the World Championship in 2022. His passion in STEM aspires him to study mechatronics engineering, and he aims to tackle world's biggest crisis, such as climate change and inequalities through innovation and technology.

Martina Revello

Meet Martina, a 16-year-old youth with a burning passion for making the world a better place and fighting climate change through public policy. Martina's all about climate action, politics, law, rowing, and the arts. She's not your average teenager; she's on a mission to change the world. Join her at TEDx and get ready to be inspired to take action and be a part of the movement for a greener, better future. Contrary to the status quo, Martina's here to show us how we need more nuclear energy, not less.

MicheleRose Fortin

Author of 4 books by T. Rose -[her psuedo name]. Founder of Quest4RecoveryNetwork.org, a CEO & LLC Business Owner. Her dynamic approach to the field of drug abuse Intervention, and leading a NIH research project empowering Peer Specialist’s focusing on the need for group therapy in our communities, to combat the repetitive hamster wheel of addiction, recovery, and relapse! Making much-needed change to both sides of the desk in this battle of addiction recovery.

Norm Leo

Science Communicator
Norman is a public speaker from Montréal. He is a science communicator with a graduate degree in atmospheric science (climate change!) and he also has an MA in theology. Like a superhero leading a double life, his day job involves decoding scientific concepts while weekends often find him preaching in a church. Norman is the founder of the Green Churches Network in Canada, an environmental charity. He previously held the position of Head of scientific education at the Biosphère, Environment Museum. Norman's mission lies in raising awareness among people who rarely hear about caring for the environment. He is also the author of three books.

Rosa Cao Liu

Growth Mentor
Rosa Cao Liu is an Asian, Latin American immigrant from Venezuela, living in Canada. Rosa is passionate about serving as a growth mentor, offering career guidance and support to university students and young professionals, through the R.O.S.E. Method. Her incredible story of resilience and determination inspires and enables audiences to cultivate a growth mindset so they can live more fulfilling lives. A career advisor and coach for almost a decade, Rosa obtained her BBA in Management and Human Resources from the esteemed University of Toronto Scarborough in 2017. Rosa is often described as patient, loving, caring, and kind.

Victor Wong

Student
Victor Wong is a 17 year-old from Burnaby British Columbia who has a passion for creative thinking and personal growth methods. He spends most of his free time researching new things to try and exploring different ways to learn new skills. Victor is also an avid volunteer who volunteers regularly at his local neighbourhood house, he enjoys the satisfaction after he has helped people in his community. His goal is to create new creative ways for people to help others that are in need of resources.
