In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Anna Davey-Mitchell

Anna is a techno-political researcher at the University of Bristol. She is Co-Lead of UoB's Digital Societies Faculty Research Group and an affiliate of the Bristol Digital Futures Institute. Her work investigates the construction and commercialisation of humanoid AI robots, what these tell us about commercially driven conceptions of femininity and whiteness, and how this affects global politics and policy. Anna Co-Hosts the Humans Need Apply podcast. She has supported companies and researchers to develop and commercialise innovations globally.

Anurita Chandola

Anurita Chandola Is an artist and textile designer who designs clothes for future space travellers and her work focuses on finding sustainable fashion solutions for outer space. Anurita challenges the norms of space fashion, revealing the intricacies of crafting garments for interstellar travel. With a passion for both space and fashion, she embarked on a mission to revolutionise the wardrobe for future space travellers, advocating for sustainable practices inspired by her Indian upbringing. Anurita does important work creating more sustainable fashion practices with women in the Himilayas as well as appearing on MasterChef 2023.

Carlos Ayala

Carlos is a skilled chocolate maker with a passion for creating a more sustainable approach to how we all consume confectionery. Originally from Ecuador, Carlos now lives in Bristol, UK where we promotes ethical and sustainable attitudes to chocolate and cacao through his company Vicolo Sei

Gail Reid

Gail is a professional figurative artist, using traditional materials and methods to create contemporary work. She often has clients model in her Bristol studio and her work has a strong focus on identity and embracing every wrinkle and line that truly makes us unique. Gail's work has been displayed far and wide and she was even a semi-finalist on Sky Arts “Portrait Artist Of The Year 2023”.

Gurpreet Kaur

Dr. Gurpreet Kaur is a global women’s rights expert. She received her B.A. (Hons) and M.A. degrees from the National University of Singapore and has a Ph.D. in Gender and Postcolonial Ecofeminism in Literature from the University of Warwick. She is an endometriosis survivor and was on a wheelchair for five years. Her interest in pursuing international law and policy towards justice was cemented during these years as she experienced first-hand through disability and gender bias that disempowerment can take various forms and shapes. So, she finished pursuing international human rights law at SOAS last year, focusing on conceptions of female violence and terrorism. In bring all the different strands together, Gurpreet is presently working on climate justice through an intersectional lens, and passionately advocates for gender equality. She now also raises awareness on endometriosis and disability, and the disproportionate impact it can have on women’s careers and life opportunities. More recently, she has been using her life experiences in exploring the interconnectedness of climate justice and sexual, reproductive and health rights. She has been nominated for the UN Women UK award for outstanding contributions to gender equality, and is on the Climate Action Network UK’s steering committee for inclusion and human rights. In her free time, Gurpreet can be found watching Netflix, writing and travelling.

Jen Reid

Jen Reid is an author and activist from Bristol. After the statue of Edward Colston was pulled down and pushed into the Bristol Harbour following the Black Lives Matter Protest, Jen climbed on to the now empty plinth and raised her fist in the Black Power salute. This iconic moment was then recreated in the sculpture A Surge of Power 2020. Jen has since been found everywhere from television screens to classrooms helping people, young and old understand the importance that history, particularly statues, have on our society and personal identities.

Jez Sweetland

Jez Sweetland swapped a successful career in the legal world to focus his time on solving the major housing crisis we all face in the future. As founder and director of the Bristol Housing Festival he seeks to be the catalyst of change for a better, more sustainable housing future for all.

Joyann Boyce

Joyann Boyce is the Founder of Inclued AI to detect bias in marketing content and she is on a mission to make inclusive marketing the industry standard. She has a background in marketing and Data Science, which she uses to drive positive change and inclusivity within the marketing industry.

Karen Dawe

Karen is a health scientist and a specialist in the science of science. Karen knows what makes good research and is on a mission to help make everyone an armchair expert when it comes to questioning dubious health claims online. From medical advice on TikTok to alternative medicines, Karen wants you to be safer by knowing how to spot fact from fiction.

Mark Loveridge

Mark is the Director of Currency at the Royal Mint as well as Director of Sustainable Precious Metals. Mark and his team are pioneering new approaches to e-waste recycling and aiming to make the UK a global leader in more sustainable approaches to the global problem of computer and technological waste.

Neil Morris

Plastic pollution has a major effect on human and planetary health. We can do so much better than pulling oil from the ground to make plastics used for a few days in packaging but which go on to pollute our world for hundreds of years. That’s why Neil co-founded Kelpi - to develop marine-safe, compostable and recyclable bio-materials from seaweed to make packaging that can match or even exceed the performance of fossil-fuel plastics.

Nicola Stock

Dr Nicola Stock is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the world-leading Centre for Appearance Research, based at the University of the West of England in Bristol. A champion of psychological health, Nicola is striving to improve psychological support for people with appearance-altering health conditions, and to promote acceptance of appearance diversity in all aspects of our society.

Oli France

Oli France is a professional expedition leader and adventurer specialising in guiding teams through some of the world's wildest places. Oli’s adventures have taken him through deserts, jungles, mountains, and war-torn regions where he has faced everything from spies and avalanches to meningitis and deadly minefields. From the highest mountain in Iraq, to the militia-filled jungles of the Congo, to the backstreets of Aleppo, Syria, Oli has faced situations that are almost unimaginable.

Roger Griffith

Dr Roger Griffith MBE is a consultant and CEO of his company Creative Connex CIC. He is a writer and social activist, lecturer for UWE Bristol and former Executive Chair and broadcaster of Ujima Radio. He has a passion for sharing cultural stories, global observations and insights on race, inclusivity and social inequality and has been delivering race equality and diversity training for over 30 years.

Samir Savant

Samir is the CEO of St George’s, a world-class music venue here in Bristol. Samir has worked for many years in the arts holding director roles at such famed places as Shakespeare’s Globe and the Royal Academy of Arts as well as running the London Handel Festival He is a passionate advocate for the power of music, particularly the benefits that singing can have on us and our communities.

Sonah Paton

Sonah is a mother, doula and co-founding director of Black Mothers Matter - www.blackmothersmatter.org Sonah works within the community supporting mothers during the perinatal period and with professionals so that they are more knowledgeable and better equipped to support Black Mothers and birthers.

Suzan Issa

Suzan is the founder and CEO of Raising a Wild Child and The Wildheart Foundation. She is an expert in neurodiversity and emotional regulation and in her own words is an Autistic Adhd-er with a heavy sprinkling of Pathological Demand Avoidance. Suzan left school at 11 only to return as a teacher 25 years later before leaving again to fulfil her need to change the whole world by supporting children and parents dealing with societal ‘norms’. Suzan dedicates her life to support children, parents and families to help them not feel alone and to find what makes them shine.
