In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Alisha Junaid

Founder & CEO of Empower Sports Academy, Pakistan National Volleyball team player, High Schooler at Khan Lab School

Alisha is an inspiring leader & athlete who founded the non-profit Empower Sports Academy to provide resources and training to young girls in Pakistan, with the goal of helping them reach their full athletic potential. Alisha has brought together an impressive team from across the world as BOD, including coaches from Stanford, Menlo College, Olivet Nazarene University & the President of FIVB Coaching association. Alisha partnered with the Pakistan Volleyball Federation to organize Pakistan's 1st ever Women's National Championship in Feb 2023. With over 140 players participating, Alisha, as the youngest on Pakistan's national team, was awarded Best Women Volleyball Setter in Pakistan. She is a certified Jr. Coach from the Nor Cal Volleyball Association and donates a majority of her salary as a paid assistant coach, to the non profit. With her expertise, passion, and drive, Alisha is making a positive impact on the world of sports, creating a brighter future for young women in Pakistan.

Hisham Abdelfattah

Hisham Abdelfattah’s culinary career began early on, inspired by his closest Latin friends. A native of the South Bay Area, with mixed Filipino and Palestinian heritage, Hisham found his calling to Culinary Arts cuisine at a very young age by helping his Mom with cooking at home. At 15, Hisham worked as a dishwasher/ prep cook, and after high school, he enrolled in the Culinary Academy in San Francisco for Culinary/ Hospitality. By 18, Hisham had already gained extensive work experience at various restaurants in a wide range of roles, including busser, waiter, line cook, and prep cook. At 20 years old, Hisham was already managing restaurants and embracing his new career with passion. Currently he is the owner & CEO of El Halal Amigos.

Kiyoshi Taylor

Kiyoshi Taylor is happiest when busy and productive. He loves music, travel, sports, and animals. As a multimedia design major in college, Kiyoshi was taught the importance of keeping up with the ever-changing technological landscape. He is proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and a range of other design, video, and web applications, and is always eager for opportunities to apply his skills, but he is always looking to learn new things and experience different work environments. Kiyoshi’s work with the nonprofit organization, that he co-founded in 2020, Justice Vanguard, has strengthened his belief in the power of education to achieve social change. Justice Vanguard was founded with the goal of educating our communities and our youth for a stronger, more inclusive future. He has tremendous respect for the community leaders he has met who continue the fight for racial and social justice. His work has impacted thousands of lives and keeps making positive change.

Machelle Ahmed is currently a freshman studying a BFA in Musical Theatre at The Boston Conservatory at the Berklee College of Music. She has also studied music and vocal performance at NYU Steinhardt. Machelle hopes to create, share, and perform her passions through her music, art, and performance. She is currently originating the role of Haroldine Montgomery in a Berklee original musical called "Mine Till the End".

Naiel Chaudry

Co-Founder & CEO of Lá Jawab Treats LLC, Winner of Kids Baking Championship 2023 Food Network, CookBook Author, Logo Designer, Middle Schooler at Bullis Charter School

Naiel is a 13 year old self taught Baker from Los Altos CA, who recently made history on Food Network's Kids Baking Championship Season 11. The show premiered on Dec 26th 2022, where 12 kid bakers and business owners from across the US competed over a 10 week reality TV series for a grand prize of $25k and the title of "Kids Baking Champion 2023". After getting through 9 tough weeks of complex baking challenges, Naiel made his way to the very top by winning the competition, making him the First Muslim, the First Pakistani American and the First Californian to have this honor. Naiel and his younger sister, Punhal started a home baking business called Lá Jawab Treats during the pandemic, to share their love for baking and giving with the world. They donate a portion of their sales to charity and regularly contribute recipes to the local paper. They just published their first cookbook called: Lá Jawab Treats: A celebration of Culture & Spice, Fusion Recipes (available on amazon).
