In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Alyssa Fortune ▶️

Student
Alyssa Fortune is a Year 8 student, currently at the British International School in Istanbul, but she has attended schools in two other countries and travelled to many interesting places with her family. This has given her an open-minded view of the world, and she wants to discover new things and learn about cultures and people wherever she goes. When a subject interests her, but she doesn't know much about it, she is inspired to research and find out more, which is how she began to learn more about memory. How people appear to have perfect memory, how people are convinced things happened one way when the truth was different, and how others can have great difficulty remembering things - these matters motivated her to create this talk. Alyssa is a creative person who loves art and writing, and her wide ranging interests means that she was delighted to be given the opportunity to explore a subject that piqued her curiosity in greater detail. She hopes you enjoy her talk!

Azka Qureshi ▶️

Student
Azka is from pakistan but she lives in turkey. Azka is 15 years old and for the last four years, she has been shocked by the number of women who are subject to sexual violence. She wants more people to know about sexual violence and she wants fewer people to become victims because of lack of education on this subject. Throughout this time she realised that this isn’t a world built on equality, but it is built on oppression and hatred. She despises this and hopes that one day the world can become an equal place. Azka qureshi is a passionate person who loves learning about the world around her, and wants the world to be a better place to live in.

Cennet Eken ▶️

Student
An interesting discovery of an interesting branch of Psychology, what does it truly mean? Cennet has been fascinated by this topic ever since she was younger, doing research just for the fun of it since it made a brand new outlook on life for her. Even the most rude, obnoxious or evil people in the world have their own stories that could at least explain so little but yet so much at the same time. Many children are being born into a generation of parents who don’t have much experience and go to their family, friends or the internet, some of the things these new parents learn isn’t always the best for the children. Cennet wants to show that both childhood and adulthood are linked and morphed by different experiences, mindsets and more.

Harry Yoon ▶️

Student
Harry played a lot of video games when he was young, but he played less as he became busier when he started progressing through school and he was jealous of his friends, which played video games way more than him, making him think that they might develop an addiction on video games. This made him curious of video game addiction, making him choose it as his talk’s topic, which helped him learn about the addiction. Harry S. Yoon was born in the city of Houston, Texas, where he lived for almost 7 years. Both of his parent’s were Korean and he received tonnes of support from them while, even though they were also in a foreign country as well. Harry moved to Seoul, South Korea shortly before moving to his current school in Istanbul, Turkey in 2017. Harry likes football(soccer), playing video games and solving the Rubik’s cube in his free time, still he isn’t really good at any of these!

Lucas Groenfeldt ▶️

Student
Lucas has built a reputation as being a mad, over-dramatic and over-confident public speaker. The thing which he values the absolute most is entertaining and making other people laugh and/or smile. He believes that the most efficient way to achieve this is through effective and high quality communication, which sets the theme for his talk today. Lucas Braa Gronfeldt is a Danish expat who has always been very fascinated by the beautiful art of communication. During his time living abroad, he has studied different cultures, languages and people and noticed the similar patterns and mistakes that a vast majority unfortunately make.

Mouna Mahrousa ▶️

Student
Mona is an ambitious 15-year-old student at BISI. In this talk, she addresses one of the biggest challenges students face, procrastination. As a procrastinator herself, she realises that many of the students in her school are experiencing the same problem. Through personal experience and research, she looks for ways to break the cycle of procrastination and shares her ideas in her talk.

Sorina Lloyd ▶️

Student
Sorina loves playing football, and has done it for years, but she always notices some unfair differences between girls and boys in football. These differences range from playing football in school just for fun to playing in professional matches with an audience. She has experienced some of these unnecessary differences and finds them a huge issue, as they can destroy confidence and and make some afraid to play football. Whenever she would try to enjoy her hobbie, she would be afraid being the only girl in a team of boys, and would lose her self esteem. And she wants others to understand this problem and help address it, giving everyone an equal chance to enjoy this sport more. During her talk, her target is to clarify that there is inequality in football and that we have to change that.
