In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

George Crooks

Professor George Crooks is currently the Chief Executive of the Digital Health and Care Institute, Scotland’s national innovation centre for digital health and care. He leads an organisation that is tasked with delivering innovation in digital health and care that will help Scotland’s people to live longer, healthier lives, deliver sustainable health and care services for the future and create economic benefits for Scotland. DHI provides opportunities for Scotland’s public sector, academia and industry to co-design digital solutions to some of the country’s biggest health and care challenges working with patients, service users and their families. He was previously the Medical Director for NHS 24 and Director of the Scottish Centre for Telehealth & Telecare. George was a General Medical Practitioner for 23 years in Aberdeen latterly combining that role as Director of Primary Care for Grampian. George is on the Board of the European Connected Health Alliance and is past president of the European Health Telematics Association. He is a Board member of TEC Quality, a UK organisation leading the implementation of quality standards and practices across the assisted living sector in the UK. He is an assessor for the European Commission on programmes involving digital health and care provision and is a member of the WHO roster of experts for digital health. He has been an advisor to a number of European governments and organisations on digital health and care. He is a member of the WHO roster of experts on digital health. He is also an adjunct Professor of Telehealth at the University of Southern Denmark. He was awarded an OBE in the Queen's New Year Honours List 2011 for services to healthcare.

Jo Chidley

I am a chemist and the Co-Founder of Beauty Kitchen, a company on a mission to create the most sustainable beauty products in the world. We are one of the pioneers of sustainable beauty. I want to drive the beauty industry forward with better practise approaches. As Beauty Kitchen’s toughest critic, I inspect everything from the efficacy of the products, to the way the ingredients are sourced, right down to the packaging sustainability for each product. Sustainability in packaging is a subject that has been close to my heart and has inspired Beauty Kitchen’s Return•Refill•Repeat programme. I have won various industry awards, including the ‘Who’s Who in Natural Beauty’ and business awards such as ‘Scale Up Entrepreneur of the Year’. As an advocate for the circular economy, I am passionate about speaking at global sustainability events, to share my ideas and knowledge on how all of us can develop new ways to build a more sustainable future.

Kimberly Nicholas

Prof. Kimberly Nicholas is a sustainability scientist at Lund University. She has published over 55 articles on climate and sustainability in leading peer-reviewed journals; writes for publications such as Elle, The Guardian, Scientific American, Decanter, and New Scientist; is the author of UNDER THE SKY WE MAKE: How to be Human in a Warming World; and writes actionable climate advice at We Can Fix It. She gives lectures and moderates at about 75 international meetings and organizations each year across public policy, civil society, arts and culture, the wine industry, foundations, and academia. Her work has been featured by outlets including the BBC, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, National Public Radio, Public Radio International, Vox, USA Today, Buzzfeed and more. Dr. Nicholas is associate professor of Sustainability Science at Lund, the highest-ranked university in Sweden. Born and raised on her family’s vineyard in Sonoma, California, she studied the effect of climate change on the California wine industry for her PhD in Environment and Resources at Stanford University. Her current research projects include a collaboration with the Municipality of Lund to radically reduce climate pollution; The Takeoff of Staying on the Ground, studying the flight-free movement in Sweden; and using digital communication to improve traveler satisfaction with public transport. She recently concluded a five-year investigation of sustainable food systems in Europe, including the first comprehensive mapping of €61 billion of annual public spending under the Common Agricultural Policy.
