Welcome to our second annual TEDxYouth@BISZ event!
For those of you who may be unfamiliar, the mission of TED is to research and discover “ideas worth spreading.” Last year, we celebrated our differences and our shared identity by choosing the theme of “growing up internationally in China.” This year, after much reflection regarding the years we have lived under the covid pandemic and its haunting effects still present on our lives, we have decided to focus on the theme of “return.”
As a noun, “return” can mean “the act of coming back to a place or condition.”
As a transitive verb, “return” can mean “to put back to a former or proper place.”
As an intransitive verb, “return” can mean “to go back or come back again.”
As China, and the world, attempt a return to normal, it has left each of us to contemplate what that normal looks like, all we’ve experienced over the past three years, and whether or not that return to the so-called normal is something we even want anymore. There are more turns to take, more turns to make, more to return to, more returning turns.
This morning, we are here to share our returns. Our returns are all unique but we are returning together, witnessing the way this world has changed, and growing into the people we wish we would become.
So thank you for returning to our TEDx event.
