"The person who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The person who walks alone is likely to find themselves in places no one has ever seen before.” This quote by Albert Einstein reminds us to step out of comfort, and take risks to evolve. The 'misfit' does not find a place in the ordered patterns of progressing in society, viewed as an aberrance by those who do. They are explorers, setting out in new directions, often failing, but eventually finding contentment and success on their own terms.
Conversely, observing misfits initiates innovation, as we begin to repurpose and improvise. For example, did you know that bubble wrap was used as a wallpaper long before being used as a packaging material? When concepts are misfits by the norms, they motivate us to question the rigid and exclusive systems to re-establish an ever-evolving world of ideas. Hence, misfits benefit us by standing up to ideals set in concrete, as well as by forging new paths for themselves and for others.
