In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Anwar El Kamony

Founder or Worldwide Campaign 'Hope Giver'

Doha El Egeimy

I am a Cairo-based radio presenter at the European service of Radio Cairo since 2006. Born and raised in Qatar and later moved to Cairo to complete my education. I studied Business Administration with a special emphasis on marketing. I am a passionate person with an innate keenness to learn about different cultures and connecting with people, partly because of my upbringing in a multicultural context. Travel, history, music, photography, and art are my tools in connecting with people and immersing myself in their heritage and stories. Moreover, I have a rooted belief in seeing the good in people and enabling them to bring it out. Working in the radio allowed me to talk to people from different walks of life. Some of the stories I heard will remain with me forever. These interactions taught me invaluable lessons about never giving up and taking ownership of shaping my future, and likewise I use my platform to make an impact on the listeners by shedding the light on these stories, triumphs and sometimes sufferings. My latest shows are primarily focused on Egyptology, underground music scene in Egypt, sustainability and raising environmental awareness in general.

Injy ElMokaddem

Injy el mokaddem is a well-known Egyptian actress and tv host who studied psychology at the American university in Cairo. Being in the position she is today required a lot of dedication and hard work. Starting from her childhood her big dream was far from conventional. She dreamt of becoming a movie and TV star one day, but she felt constrained by society’s prevailing restrictions at the time. She went on to study at the American University in Cairo where she majored in Psychology and minored in Theatre, and that was the first time she got a taste of what it was like to perform on stage. When she graduated, she was still too afraid to apply for acting jobs, due to the negative things she kept hearing about the backend of the film industry and so worked as a Graphic Designer for a while as she started to ease her way into the media field. She then applied for a job as a correspondent at Orbit’s Al Qahera Al Youm (Cairo Today) on El Youm Channel. While it was her first time standing in front of a camera, it felt natural to her and she got the job. Soon enough, she was presenting her own game show, El Sellem Wel Teaban (Snakes & Ladders) on the same network. Not long after that, she moved to OTV station owned by Nagib Sawiris, in 2006 when she started acting “It all traces back to when I was in college, studying Psychology as a major, and Theater as a minor; I was infatuated and besotted with acting. At the time, my now husband didn't like the idea of me getting into the world of acting outside of college. Still not wanting to let go of the dream, I worked as a reporter, and then a TV host.”

She would like to highlight on the dangerous conditions that dogs are currently facing in the country, raise awareness on the efforts done to save her fur babies as well as collaboration with government entities and societal dog organizations to issue a law for protecting animals' lives in Egypt.

Omar Safar

Hello my name is Omar Safar, I'm an Egyptian rock climber and co-founder of Ascent Indoor Climbing (Egypt's first dedicated indoor climbing facility). I first came across rock climbing 5 years ago when I first visited Dahab in Sinai. I had always been fond of nature and what it had to offer, the way you could find peace and self-discipline from being out in the mountains attracted me more and more. Rock climbing solidified my love for nature by adding a sport element to it. When I lived in the UK when I was studying for my Master's Degree, I started frequenting an indoor rock climbing gym there called the Arch, it was then that I knew I was hooked and that this was finally what I've been searching for. I had always played sports from a young age, I tried water polo, rugby, boxing but none of them gave me the excitement or feeling of empowerment that rock climbing did. Having also struggled with career paths and feeling lost about what I wanted to do in life, particularly during the pandemic, rock climbing gave me a way out and that is when I decided to turn it into a career. My topic will be about finding a way to navigate yourself when you feel like you have no clue what you want for your future I will talk about the importance of finding balance when realizing your career and passions work together perfectly and that you should always try to link them together even if it feels scary. Also the importance of realizing that in order to succeed in getting your business up and running (or to be able to follow any dream you have) certain sacrifices must be made but the rewards as a result will always be fruitful in the end. And finally, understanding that only you can empower yourself to reach your highest potential and how rock climbing helped me personally break free from mental and physical barriers that were holding me back.

Omar Sobky

Born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, I'm an athlete with a passion for outdoor sports. With a career of 13 years in the Oil & Gas field, my job has never stopped me from building a deep connection with nature. My corporate path took me to the United States, where I spent 7 years living in the mid-west by the Rocky Mountains. My passion for outdoor sports began with surfing, where riding a wave felt like teaming up with mother nature. It all started off as play, only to find out that the natural scapes hold the greatest teachings. In 2010, I founded the first Surf School in Egypt. Mean-while, I was pursuing several other sports like climbing, snowboarding, kite surfing and skating. These different activities were carving my understanding of integrating with nature in different ways. Being the mechanical engineer that I am, I was always interested in the mechanisms of our environment and their interplay with the human body. This ideology pushed me further to formulate another brand of outdoor sports. Its mission is to build a community of outdoor enthusiasts and promote a better way of living, where nature is viewed as an adult playground. I was happy to see what I once viewed as a hobby turn into a seed of a new brand. There comes a point where one's career, passion and happiness start aligning; it is when the bigger picture starts making sense. This made me realize that every person has the power to create their own reality if they stay true to their inner quests.
