This event occurred on
June 10, 2023
Nanjing, Jiangsu
China

TEDxYouth@JLHS is a platform for students to share their ideas, insights, and experiences with the world. Through this event, they will have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, explore new perspectives, and be inspired to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.

The theme of "Rethink, Recharge, Relaunch" is particularly relevant as we emerge from the pandemic and begin to rebuild our lives and societies. It challenges us to rethink our assumptions, recharge our efforts, and relaunch ourselves into a brighter future.

Throughout the day, you will hear from students who have taken on this challenge, and who have developed innovative solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems. You will also have the opportunity to engage with them, ask questions, and join in the conversation.

Enyang Chen is a sophomore at the Regular Department of Jinling High School in Nanjing, China. She has spent years advocating for women's rights and equality and is passionate about empowering women from all walks of life. She had been brought up in the habits of social insight and helpfulness. Her daily observations as a high school student informed her of the implicit gender inequalities in China and fueled her desire to explore feminism further by doing a fair amount of data-surveying and interviews. In her TED talk, she shares stories from her own life and experiences, as well as those of other women who have faced discrimination and prejudice. Her goal is to inspire others to join the fight for gender equality and to encourage all of us to work towards creating a more just and equitable world for everyone.

Qier Lan is a sophomore at the International Department of Jinling High School in Nanjing, China. She is a researcher who is devoted to studying the importance of traditional culture in Yuanyang, China. Although currently residing in Nanjing, Lan is originally from Yunnan and has had a deep connection to its culture since birth. She chose to focus on Yuanyang County, Honghe Prefecture, as it is where her maternal relatives reside. She conducted observational research during two visits to her hometown, one in July of 2022 and the other in 2023. Her objective is to demonstrate that Hani culture is not backward and that people can learn from the Hani people's ideas in three key areas: the relationship between people and individuals, people and nature, and people and society. She is calling on her peers to understand and spread Hani's traditional culture so that more people can benefit from its wisdom.

Songhe Jin

Student@Jinling High School + Student psychologist + Landscape photographer
Songhe Jin is a sophomore at the Regular Department of Jinling High School in Nanjing, China. She has observed a concerning trend of group assimilation among her peers. This behavior can cause introverted students to compromise their true selves in order to fit in. She believed that the loss of individuality is worth discussing. As a student psychologist and landscape photographer, she enjoys exploring nature alone, which has taught her the value of solitude in achieving inner peace. Through applying psychological frameworks and conducting extensive research, she has discovered that positive solitude in daily life can reduce excessive social interactions and alleviate the negative effects of immense pressure caused by learning, competition, and employment in Chinese cities. As the leader of a research study group, she is dedicated to uncovering the power of solitude and has conducted several presentations and discussions on the subject.

Tian Dai

Student@Jinling High School + Traveler + Existentialist
Tian Dai is a sophomore at the Regular Department of Jinling High School in Nanjing, China. Tian makes it her goal to experience life in all its forms by exploring different parts of the world. Despite being a student and having to spend a lot of time at her desk, she maintains a positive outlook on routine life and finds ways to make it more enjoyable. With a passion for existentialism, she immerses herself in philosophical literature and gains a profound understanding of the subject. She identifies with the myth of Sisyphus, finding joy in the struggle of pushing a stone uphill. Her philosophy emphasizes the importance of living in the present moment and savoring the certainty of life in a world full of uncertainty.

Xuying Chen

Student@Jinling High School
Xuying Chen is a freshman at the Regular Department of Jinling High School in Nanjing, China. She is thoughtful and loves reading essays, especially about philosophy. She can find deep meanings in everyday life experiences, which helps her develop a well-rounded personality. She hopes to inspire others to break their limitations and reach their full potential. In her opinion, everyone can become a superstar in their chosen field if they are free from limitations.

Yifei Xu

Student@Jinling High School
Yifei Xu is a freshman at the Regular Department of Jinling High School in Nanjing, China. After school, she enjoys being social and values human connections. During break time, she tries to start conversations with her classmates to help them unwind from their lessons. Unfortunately, some of her classmates respond with indifference, and the classroom becomes quieter as the lessons progress. This lack of communication can create a rift between students. However, her passion for building communities motivates her to find ways to improve the school environment. She believes that while innate factors such as genetic variations cannot be changed, behavioral psychology can play a role in improving social dynamics. She has even extended her study to tackle the larger societal issue of social atomization. Inspired by Japanese and Chinese culture, she suggests practical ways to develop lasting relationships and strengthen human connections in society.

Yifei Zuo

Student@Jinling High School
Yifei Zuo is a sophomore at the Regular Department of Jinling High School in Nanjing, China. She used to spend hours on TikTok every day, which had a significant impact on her daily routine. Intrigued by this phenomenon, she conducts research and finds that many teenagers are addicted to short videos. She realizes that this is a result of the fast-paced society, which leads her to call for people to value a slow life and prioritize the quality of life.

Yuxian Wu

Student@Jinling High School + Environmental sociologist
Yuxian Wu is a freshman at the International Department of Jinling High School in Nanjing, China. His passion for global warming and environmentally friendly electricity generation methods led him to form a team called Nanjing Youth Innovators for the China Thinks Big (CTB) competition, where he found like-minded companions in his city. Together, they conducted a detailed case study on the advantages and disadvantages of using household PV to alleviate rural poverty in Daming County of Hebei Province. The result of their hard work is a report titled "The Benefits and Challenges of Household PV in Rural China: An Insight Through Daming County."
