This new edition of TEDxRankalaLake envisioned to bring 𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 virtually to 𝗞𝗼𝗹𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘂𝗿.
Talks from future-shaping speakers immersed in meaningful ideas were witnessed, while connecting women across generations, inspire with personal stories, ignited conversations and uplifted our spirits with the connections that are always the hallmark of the TEDWomen experience.

Anjali Sud (TED Video)

CEO of Vimeo

Sud has been CEO of Vimeo since July 2017, before which she served as the company’s general manager and head of marketing. She’s witnessed the explosive growth of online video firsthand; today, some 350,000 new videos are uploaded to the Vimeo platform each day. A tech world veteran, Sud previously held positions in e-commerce, finance and media at Amazon and Time Warner. Sud has been included in Fortune's “40 Under 40”, Crain’s “40 Under 40”, Adweek's “Power List” and The Hollywood Reporter's “Next Gen Under 35”. She was named a Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum and serves on the board of directors at Dolby Laboratories.

Dr. Heidi B. Hammel (TED Video)

Interdisciplinary Scientist and Planetary Astronomer

As a planetary astronomer, Heidi B. Hammel has studied our Solar System's outer planets, and their rings and moons, with equipment including the Gemini Observatory, the Hubble Space Telescope and will now continue her work with the JWST. She has studied Uranus and Neptune extensively, and she worked on the imaging team for Voyager 2’s Neptune encounter in 1989, humanity’s closest approach to the farthest known planet. The recipient of the Sagan Medal and the Public Understanding of Science Award from the San Francisco Exploratorium, Hammel has been recognized for both her science and her work in public outreach. In 2020, she received the Masursky Award for outstanding service to planetary science and exploration from the American Astronomical Society. An asteroid orbiting the Sun in the area between Mars and Jupiter, 1981 EC20, was renamed 3530 Hammel in her honor.

Femi Oke (TED Video)

International Journalist, Writer and Moderator.

Femi Oke has leveraged her ability to ask endless questions at school into a surprisingly rich and non-linear career. The British-Nigerian journalist is an international broadcaster, professional facilitator and cofounder of Moderate The Panel, an organization working to make panel events less painful. Oke anchors the global affairs discussion show The Stream on Al Jazeera, is a correspondent for the network’s documentary series Fault Lines and is the social media correspondent for NPR's news program Here and Now. According to Oke, the secret to longevity in the news business is to love journalism and have a great moisturizer.

Mary Robinson (TED Video)

First Woman President of Ireland, Advocate for Gender Equality, Climate Activist

Mary Robinson served as president of Ireland from 1990 to 1997 and as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights from 1997 to 2002. She was awarded the US Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama in 2009 and served as the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for the Great Lakes region of Africa. Since 2018, Robinson has been Chair of The Elders, an independent group of global leaders working together for peace, justice and human rights. Founded in 2007 by Nelson Mandela, The Elders work both publicly and through private diplomacy to resolve conflict, challenge injustice and promote ethical leadership. Robinson believes that intergenerational dialogue is vital to meet today’s global challenges.

Nadia Drake (TED Video)

Freelance Journalist and Content Writer

Nadia Drake is a freelance science journalist and contributing writer at National Geographic. She specializes in writing about planetary science, though she also loves to write about locations on Earth, too. She’s reported from around the world, traveling to the jungles of Peru and Indonesian Borneo, the Arctic Ocean and even the glaciers at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. She has written for publications including The New York Times, The Atlantic, Scientific American, Nature, Wired, Science News and more. While her life is now full of giant bugs and tales of space exploration, Drake was once a professional ballet dancer. She has a PhD in genetics from Cornell University and a graduate certificate in science communication from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Vanessa Nakate (TED Video)

Founder of Rise Up Movement, Climate Activists and Author

The first “Fridays For Future” striker in Uganda, Vanessa Nakate founded Rise Up in 2018 as a way to give voice to African climate activists. Through the related Vash Green Schools Project, she’s also aiming to install solar panels in Uganda's 24,000 schools. Previously, she spearheaded a campaign to stop deforestation in the Congo rainforest. Nakate’s book, A Bigger Picture, is a manifesto and memoir about how to build a more liveable future. In it, she presents a new vision for an inclusive climate movement based on resilience and equity. Nakate was named a Young Leader of the Sustainable Development Goals by the United Nations in 2020 and was featured on TIME magazine's list of the world’s most influential emerging leaders in 2021.
