Brendan Selby
Medical Student
Brendan is a final year medical student at UWA who entered the course at age 42. He was previously a high school teacher. As a mature age student with a partner and child, Brendan found study challenging but has learnt to overcome obstacles. He likes to encourage other Mature-Age students and currently serves as the Mature Chair on the committee of WAMSS (Western Australian Medical Students’ Society).
Brendan's talk is intended to inspire those who would like to come and study at a tertiary level but face challenges and might be from non-traditional backgrounds.
Joseph Chan
Juris Doctor student
Joseph is a Juris Doctor student at the University of Western Australia. Throughout his university life, Joseph has embraced the opportunities that have been presented to him. Notably serving as the UWA Student Guild Vice President, the Post Graduate Students’ President and a Senate member for the University of Western Australia. Joseph is an aspiring content creator and one day hopes to share his knowledge to give back to the community.
His talk centers around the idea of listening to your own voice. He talks about his journey from highschool and his lower years at university where he relied a lot upon external drive and the opinions of others, before finally reaching a turning point and giving greater significance to internal motivation and gaining an understanding of what he wants to achieve with his life.
Racheline Tantular
Analyst and University Student
Racheline studies Asian Studies and Music at the University of Western Australia, and works as an Analyst at Lydekker, an Asia strategy firm. Racheline is the Chief Partnerships Officer of the ASEAN-Australia Strategic Youth Partnership. She conceptualised and directed the Indo-Pacific Future Leaders Programme and facilitated the Indo-Pacific Student Mobility Youth Dialogue.

Viknash VM
International Onboarding Officer
Viknash is the Onboarding Officer at UWA and was the former Deputy chair of the Guild Council and International Students’ Department President. He is passionate about uplifting and inspiring anyone around him and has been an inspiration for many in the community to push the boundaries on normal stereotypes.
He will be discussing how you can take ownership of your journey in building yourself. He will share his journey of challenging ‘no’s, how that shaped his time as a student and how you can do that for yourself.
