We are more than excited to officially announce the launch of the TEDxUniversityofBristol 2022 event under the theme of 'Forging Futures'.

Through this theme we aim to encourage a proactive attitude towards the challenges and opportunities of the future and inspire innovative thoughts that can shape our society. This years talks range from cybersecurity and immersive technology to meditation and social policy!

Dr Alex Young

Founder & CEO at Virti
Dr Alex Young is a trauma and orthopaedic surgeon by training and the founder of several education technology companies. Alex scaled his first company from his bedroom while still training as a surgeon using self-taught coding-skills. Alex is passionate about power skills like leadership and communication and founded Virti to help organisations digitise in-person training and role play to improve organisational EQ and help employees feel more prepared when entering high pressure situations. Virti was named a TIME magazine Best Invention, Fast Company Most Innovative Company and was featured on the Nasdaq Tower in NYC. Alex holds a Masters degree in Surgical Science, a postgraduate certificate in education and membership of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. He has published over 10 books, hosts the human performance podcast and promotes learning and education through his blog and newsletter.

Maya Raichoora

CoFounder & CEO of VIVE
Maya Raichoora, an multi-award winning Entrepreneur and visionary, is the co-founder of VIVE. She teaches visualisation; an active mental practice that rewires the brain, helping individuals and businesses to reach their full potential and achieve their goals.She is a University of Bristol Alumnus with a first class Masters in Geography with innovation. She has just been nominated for best graduate start up in the South West, being recognised for her transformational workshops and live events. Maya brings 7+ years of visualisation expertise to TEDx. After being diagnosed with an incurable autoimmune disease when she was young, she found a deep-seated passion for physical and mental well-being, performance and personal development.

Monty Bryant

Founder & CEO of People Power
Monty is a change-maker exploring and experimenting with new systems and technologies to build a better future. He was the lead author of the Smart & Sustainable Energy Guide for non-executive directors recently published by Chapter Zero, and is currently undertaking his masters. In 2019 he won the Bristol New Enterprise Ideas Competition in his project to reimagine impact investing. Taking this further, he has just launched his company PeoplePower - harnessing regenerative crypto finance to fund environmental projects and create exponential impact.

Nasra Ayub

Gender Equality Campaigner
Nasra Ayub is a multi-award winning campaigner, writer and international speaker. Since the age of 15, Nasra has been campaigning for the end of violence against women and girls such as FGM and honour based violence. Nasra is a recipient of the prestigious Diana Award, for her work in tackling violence against women and girls. She has been featured on The Guardian, ITV, BBC Three and BBC 1 speaking on race and other social justice issues. Nasra has also provided consultation for many MPs including former Prime Ministers on grooming and radicalisation, counter extremism strategies and its impact on young people.

Prof Bruce Hood

Professor of Developmental Psychology
Professor Bruce Hood is an experimental psychologist and philosopher at our university specialising in developmental cognitive neuroscience. Bruce is a visiting professor at MIT and Harvard University and has contributed to substantial research on cognitive development in childhood. Bruce Hood has curated and delivers a course called The Science of Happiness, at several universities in association with Yale University and is now the basis for the BBC podcast The Happiness Half-Hour co-presented by Bruce. Bruce is also a lifetime fellow of the Association Psychological Science and was President of the Psychology Section of the British Science Association and received the inaugural Distinguished Contribution to Developmental Psychology award from the British Psychological Society.

As Head of Cyber Security for Stripe OLT, it’s Ryan’s role to ensure only the best is delivered to clients. From 24x7 Managed Security Operations and Incident Response, to Penetration Testing and User Education, Ryan prides himself in providing context to clients and positioning Stripe OLT as a trusted security services provider. Ryan holds a wide range of expertise in multiple disciplines which includes incident response, offensive security, open-source intelligence, cyber consultancy and training across a broad range of technical disciplines for a wide range of markets, and is currently a Go:Tech Awards Finalist for Tech Entrepreneur of the Year 2022. A highlight of 2022 so far has been getting employed to break into high security buildings using social engineering methods and training sectors of UK government on Cyber Security.
