Scunthorpe has changed and continues to re-invent itself in ways we never imagined and again is on the brink of a more significant change and transformation as the we move out of the global pandemic. Plans for an advanced manufacturing park on a Scunthorpe gateway site have been revealed, which will be a global hub for research, development, and innovation.

So, as we welcome new opportunities into our borough, TEDx Scunthorpe welcomes ideas worth spreading that will further redefine Scunthorpe's contribution across the United Kingdom and globally. Scunthorpe is more than just Steel, it's about people, education, innovation, and the development of new technology which will improve how we live, work and play.

Tyrone Curran

Social Entrepreneur
Tyrone is leading the development of co-working business models for towns like Scunthorpe at the Crosby Collective. He is fascinated with how you create ecosystems that help micro-enterprises thrive as well as develop thriving communities. Tyrone trained to be a teacher in South Africa but felt the call to explore other ventures in the UK; this is where he helped to set up the Sophie Hayes Foundation which supports survivors of trafficking in the UK. The Crosby Collective was developed by Oasis Hub Henderson Avenue and made possible by funding from the Big Lottery Fund and Community Led Local Development (CLLD) Fund. Oasis is fluid in nature, meaning that whilst there is a definite goal, how we get there is flexible. We’re not about hierarchy; we believe that people coming together to create uplifting businesses, spaces and experiences to benefit the community should be valued, enabled and embraced.
