Tunde Onakoya is the founder of Chess in Slums Africa and a Nigerian chess master, instructor, and coach. Chess in Slums Africa started is a volunteer driven non-profit organization which aims to empower young ones in impoverished communities by using the game of chess.
In Lagos, he has coordinated a variety of initiatives for children in slums such as Majidun (Ikorodu), Makoko, and, most recently, Oshodi. The youngsters participate in a two-week session in which they learn to read, write, and develop fundamental literacy skills while playing the game of chess.
