Theme: Big Changes Through Small Acts

The Second TEDxUHAS event has the theme “BIG CHANGES THROUGH SMALL ACTS” and promises to be a very educative one. Speakers from diverse professional backgrounds such the media, politics, education, health, law, engineering etc have been invited to grace the programme. The venue is the Trafalgar Auditorium and the scheduled date is 7th May, 2022. Invited speakers include; Mr. Andrews D. Adugu (State Attorney and also a member of the Research and Ethics Committee, UHAS), Mr. David Adzovie (Human Resource Director, UHAS), Dr. Charles Hayfron (Lecturer SOM, UHAS ), Dr. Derrick Atigah ( UHAS Trained Medical Doctor ), Dr. Elizabeth Morton ( UHAS Valedictorian, 2021 Graduation), Mr. Gideon Dendzo (CEO Giddens Gh), Mr. B. K.Aklama ( Media Personality), Dr. Elsie Kuaffman ( Medical Scientist), Mr. Korku Lumor (Journalist), Mr. Kwame Opoku (Professional Speaker) amongst others. The event is student focused and all students are invited to participate for free since it will go a long way in helping us in our professional lives. Students from the Ho Polytechnic and NTC have been invited too.

Abigail-Dede Ogbordor

Youth Counsellor

Abigail Dede Ogbordjor is a youth counsellor and also the Director of Grace Tree Ministry/Foundation which is a Non Governmental Organisation. She is a Human Resource Manager with Ghana health services and currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Arts in Ministry at the Trinity Theological Seminary, legon Accra.

Alpha Habib Bangura

Public Policy Expert

Alpha is a public policy, education, climate action, and youth skills development enthusiast with 6+ years of experience living and working in West and Eastern Africa. Alpha explores the role of youths in making meaningful contributions to addressing pressing global challenges at national and international levels. He currently works as a Project Lead in the Office of the Mayor of Freetown, where he provides strategic leadership and advisory support on education, urban heat resilience, and human capital development. Alpha holds a first-class Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Global Challenges from the African Leadership University in Kigali, Rwanda. Alpha is also the Founder & Executive Director of Sustainable Education Africa - a skills and talent development consulting firm that is dedicated to building a generation of multifaceted transformational leaders for Africa through mentorship, research, and industry-specific training programs.

Andrews Dodzi Adugu

State Attorney

Andrews is a State Attorney working with the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice, Ho Office and was called to the Bar in 2012. He is currently the Focal Person for the Prosecution of Human trafficking cases in the Volta and Oti Regions. He is a member of the Research and Ethics Committee of University of Health and Allied Sciences. He is also a member of the Research and Ethics committee of School of Medicine-UHAS. For the past 7 years he has been teaching various law courses in a number of universities with Campus in the Volta region notable among them are University of Ghana, EP University and currently University of Cape Coast. He has delivered talks and seminars on disability law, Human trafficking, Health and ethics among others. He is an International Visitor Leadership fellow having been selected by the US Department of State in the year 2019 to represent Ghana in a 3 week training programme on Human trafficking in the United State of America.

Benjamin Kweku Aklama

Benjamin is a Business Journalist with Accra-based Citi FM and TV who has a keen interest in Agriculture. Benjamin has practiced Journalism in the Volta Region as a correspondent and now manages www.citibusinessnews.com while leading Team-Citi in the Volta Region. Benjamin has also operated several farms of various crops. He is currently leading the production of a 12-acre Potato farm in the Volta Region. Benjamin also Leads the Green innovation Team at the Ho Node Hub, an innovation and business incubation space in Ho. The Green Innovation team is focused on improving climate-conscious and healthy food production in Ghana. Ben has volunteered with the Ghana Think Foundation as Partnership Lead for Barcamp Ho. Benjamin is a proud Christian and a Rotarian at heart.

Courage Christson Tetteh is a learner, an educator, an entrepreneur and an influencer with passion for creating platforms to ignite transformative ideas. He has a knack for mobilizing local resources for community impact. He founded Torchbearers Book and Stationery Services- a bookstore with nationwide delivery capacity serving readers with books to shape minds for exploits and LIFE-MAC Network Foundation, a social enterprise committed to creating a community of critical thinkers, doers and leaders to chart the course of Africa. He works full-time with Pencils of Promise, an international NGO shaping the the landscape of Education. He volunteers with GhanaThink Foundation as the Lead for Barcamp Ho and is a shaper in the Ho Hub of Global Shapers Community- a global network for young people driving dialogue, action and change. His greatest quest is finding out the most effective ways to innovate for quality education in Africa.

David Adzovie

Human Resource Manager

David Adzovie is currently the Director of Human Resources at the University of Health & Allied Sciences. Prior to joining UHAS, He was the Country Lead, Human Resources at Halliburton; the Houston based giant and one of the world’s largest and respected companies in the upstream Oil and Gas Sector. He doubled as the HR Projects Lead for Halliburton, West Africa Area which has been expanded to cover Africa Other Area (West, Central & East Africa Area) with operations in 28 Countries. With over 19 years excellent mix of People, Process & Technology experience within multinational organizations in Manufacturing, Production, Investment, Services, Oil & Gas and now Academia, David Adzovie has developed distinctive competencies in HR Transformation, Performance Management and Organisational Development for highest levels of execution and change. David drives best practices and best fits in the employment life cycle delivering high ROI, Customer Loyalty, Corporate Image and Profits.

Dr Emmanuel K Appiasie

Doctor

Dr. Emmanuel K Appiasie is a Medical Doctor by profession and a Photographer with Beep in his leisure time and quite often, mounts the stage as a spoken word artist. He is very passionate about individuals maximizing their potential and being the best they can be. He has held many leadership positions including Vice President of the University of Health and Allied Sciences Medical students Association. With previous experience heading entertainment in high school, Dr. Appiasie is a master orator.

Dr. Charles Hayfron-Benjamin

Senior Lecturer

Dr. Charles Hayfron-Benjamin is a physiologist and specialist in anaesthesiology and critical care medicine. He holds a Medical Degree (MBChB) degree from the University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS) and a Ph.D. in pulmonary and vascular medicine from the Amsterdam University Medical Centre, University of Amsterdam. He also has an MPhil in Physiology from the UGMS and dual specialist qualifications in anaesthesiology from the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and the West African College of Surgeons. He is also a fellow of the Cardiovascular Research Training Institute and the New York University-UG Research Integrity Training Program, both funded by the United States National Institutes of Health. Dr. Hayfron-Benjamin is currently a senior lecturer and consultant for the lung function testing program of the UGMS. Charles's research work focuses on the biological basis of lung and vascular disease in individuals with diabetes and sickle cell disease.

Dr. Derrick Attigah

Dr. Attigah attended the Presbyterian Boy’s Senior Secondary, Legon and completed in the year 2014. He is the firstborn to his 4 other younger siblings. Derrick graduated as a Medical Doctor from the University of Health and Allied Sciences and currently waiting for his posting for Housemanship. Dr. Derrick has risen through the ranks of leadership both in academia and in faith acting as the Vice President of the Medical Students Association of the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho and acted as the erstwhile Media and Publicity Head for the Pentecost Students and Associates, Ghana. Dr. Derrick is a young man who is passionate about using his life’s story as an example to inspire many young men and women to rise above their present predicament to achieve their God given goals and purposes. He won the Best Student Emcee in the 2019 and 2021 LNUGS award in UHAS and an honorary award as the Student Icon of Inspiration in 2021. He aspires to be an Internal Medicine Specialist.

Handling high end Private, Corporate, and Charity events notable among them The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIMG) Awards, MTN IPO Launch, Ghana Association of Writers Awards, The Project Management Awards, Ghana Tourism Authority Awards etc A former Show Host of 'Breakfast Live' TV Africa’s Morning Show & flagship program and also anchored 'News Hour' the TV station's Prime Time News at 6pm. Korku Lumor hosted the Ghana Youth President Reality TV show which aired on Joy Prime. Currently the host of 505 news on Class FM in Accra and also the Host of ‘Just Ask’, a talk show on Dominion TV. He also co-hosts Fintech Africa TV, a soon-to-air program on TV. Mariam Ohunene Sulleiman

Mariam Ohunene Sulleiman holds a bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Federal University of Technology Minna, Nigeria. She is a Research Assistant at the Advanced Engineering Innovation and Research Group. Mariam is a Wells Mountain Initiative (WMI) Graduate Scholar and a member of the Wells Mountain Initiative Global Advisory Board with passion for effecting positive change especially in the areas of clean energy, education and women empowerment. Mariam co-founded Females in Clean Energy Foundation where she serves as the Secretary and is working to realize SDG 5 and SDG 7 in Nigeria. Currently, she works as the Research Unit lead at Sublimers EdTech Limited, Nigeria
