Alvin Zhang (12C) is a member of the school ultimate frisbee varsity team. He has a strong passion for the sport and has demonstrated his strong commitment to the team through his performance on the field. Angela (11F) is sporty, enthusiastic and friendly. She has many hobbies ranging from squash to frisbee to soccer. However, art remains one of her deep passions. She spends a lot of her time visiting art and fashion exhibitions. She thinks this can both expand her artistic accomplishment as well as her knowledge of fashion. As a fashion lover and an environmentalist, she will share her thoughts on sustainability within the fashion industry.

Carine Li (11A) is passionate about mathematics and creative writing.. She always thinks about the essential reasons for the emergence of common phenomena in life. She reflects deeply reflection on the pressure and competition in current learning trends. Through long-term data access and communication with learners, she has tried to analyze the impact of internal examinations of waves of pressure, and believed that the current learning environment might need to be reconsidered.
Coco Huang 黄轩婕

Coco Huang (12B) is a young Chinese poet is fascinated about how society influences individuals’ minds and behaviors. She began to write poems in primary school, and continues to be prolific today. As a writer, she believes in the importance of observation. She is reflective and evaluative and feeds her creative process through personal observation and the observation of those around her. Her aim is to form a comprehensive understanding of the modern culture industry on what are acceptable social norms. Through her talk, she asserts that the modern culture industry has a negative impact on the human brain and that getting involved with personal artistic process, like writing poetry, might be a way out. She seeks to inspire a wave of creative process to combat pressure felt from feeling the need to conform.
Liu Hongyi 刘宏逸
Math and Computer Science Teacher at Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School
Is mathematics certain? Are all truths in mathematics certain to be known? Liu Hongyi is a Math and Computer Science teacher at Qibao Dwight and he would like to use this opportunity to share a question that has puzzled him since high school: When we say we cannot solve a mathematical problem, is it because we are not competent as problem solvers, or is it because the problem itself is unsolvable? Such questions have also puzzled mathematicians for thousands of years. Knowing the fact that mathematics, and all other disciplines founded on logic is incomplete, how do we view the solution of mathematical problems and the pursuit of mathematical truth?
Peter Shen 申博今
Student from partner Middle School
Peter Shen is from Grade 8 Wenlai IIC. He started playing the piano when he was 3 years old and was recently awarded first prize in the Shanghai Piano Open Competition. He thinks waves are just like musical highs and lows, sometimes calm, sometimes turbulent, sometimes undulating. He hopes to share his personal story of practicing piano and explain the experience of his emotional waves. When he was young he embraced that learning and practicing music is a good way to find ways to regulate your emotions and to practice how to solve a problem.

Selina (11E) is a lively and cheerful student. She likes to share her opinions as well as listen patiently to the thoughts of others. She loves to explore the essence of things with a keen interest. At QD she has actively participated in many conversations around social justice. In the process, she found that most people do not know enough about the experience of ethnic minorities. Through the waves of music emanating from her flute, she will share how learning a niche instrument gave her access to a world of minority music that she had not previously understood.

Mr. Henton is an enthusiastic art teacher. He is also a mindful thinker who loves to observe tiny little details in life. On a daily basis in his classroom and around campus, through asking student one simple question and following up with deeper inquiry, he has investigated communication and how it helps build meaningful relationships. For him, the interactions between people are significant; all the responses collected from different individuals can be distinguished as waves.
