In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Ariana Irfan

Ariana is a grade 11 student and Chapter Head of the Believe Leadership Course at Terry Fox Secondary. Her TEDTalk shares the importance of a refreshed mindset using a three step method to help our journey upward on the ladder of life.

Elaine Xiao

Elaine is a first-year science student at McGill. In her free time, she loves to write, spend as much time in the sun as possible, and do a very poor job of crocheting various accessories. Her talk is focused on the concept of honouring your life over romanticizing it.

Jay Hamidova

Jay is a 20 year old Gleneagle Secondary alumni, professional mistake maker, and leader. They aim to show those around them that mistakes and failures are a part of the main road you're journeying. They were a 2020 grad, headed off to UBC on a full ride, and can't wait to tell you how that transition took place through the early stages of the pandemic.

Samuel Rostam

Samuel Rostam is an adjunct professor at the NYIT Vancouver Campus teaching master-level courses, and developing technology subjects for Cloud/Cyber Security and Big Data Analytics. He has extensive experience as a technical advisor with clients in large organizations with a complex mix of technical challenges including government agencies in North America. Samuel is certified in several advanced technologies that include Cloud, SOA design, Governance Systems, and Blockchain. Samuel's passion is to leverage advances in technology innovations, learning, teaching, and applying best practices to solve complex problems, cheaper, faster, and better. He has been conducting over 100 global technical training workshops, sharing his experiences with digital transformation products primarily in the USA and Canada. Samuel completed an M.Sc in computer science at SFU and studied partially in a Ph.D. program at UBC.

Sophia Guan

Sophia Guan is a 2nd-year UBC student majoring in Psychology, a Peer Facilitator for the UBC Student Recovery Community, and a Student Advisor for UBC Arts Co-op. She hopes to pursue a path that involves uplifting her community, such as counselling. In her spare time, she loves to create art, hike, listen to psychology podcasts, and cuddle her dog, Sparky.
