Japan

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Gerald Fidler Anak Begeli

My name is Gerald Fidler, and I was born in Malaysia, January 15, 1999. I was enrolled in a Japanese Preparatory course for 2 years in INTEC Education College located in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. Graduating from INTEC, I continued my diploma in Toyota Institute of Technology for 3 years, in Toyota city, Aichi, Japan. As of the current moment, I am currently 23 years old, and I am enrolled in the Architecture and Civil Engineering department as an undergraduate student at Toyohashi University of Technology. Throughout my studies, I am able to understand and communicate using 4 languages. Since young, the subject of science and nature has always fascinated me because through science, not only are we able to learn about natural occurrences in detail, but also discover new worlds beyond our own imagination. In my opinion, Mother Nature has given us everything that we need to thrive and gave us reasons to be aware of our own action as a whole species. It may not be obvious what immediate consequences may stem from our actions, but nature has its own ways of responding. One such examples is Global Warming and climate change, which I am sure most of us are aware of. In pursuit of my passion for science and nature, as well as to contribute to society, I decided to enroll in Civil engineering. I was lucky to have been given the chance to continue my higher education in Japan. Given the circumstances, there were times when I had struggled with my Japanese fluency but also, I had gained so much experience that I know I could not get anywhere else. I had the chance to experience the four seasons, Japanese cuisines, and festivals, visit popular sites in Japan and met people from various other countries along the way. I had always been an introvert and a shy person when it comes to talking. I was more of a listener than a talker. Watching videos of public speeches and live commentary online is one of my favorite pastimes. Never had I thought of doing a speech in front of a crowd myself but since the rare opportunity of giving a Tedtalk does not just come by, I thought it would be a great experience to add to my list: to be able to share my passion about nature.
