Theme: TEDxDanubia Countdown

It is a special moment in time. We never thought such a dramatic shift in our everyday lives could be a reality. But it can. It is. So we struggle. We adapt. But as survival mode gives way to a new beginning, we must be mindful: although self-sustainment and short-term thinking will understandably become priorities and automatisms gravitate us back towards more of the same, we have a unique opportunity. We have shared a global, yet deeply personal experience of uncertainty and seen our limitations. We have an increased sensitivity to how such things may in fact happen to us. We have faced the potential of major moral dilemmas. And we have experienced the disruption of our customary routines and behaviour patterns. So are we more open to rethinking how we relate to the world? Can we redesign for our future needs? Can we grasp this opportunity to break out of the limiting – even destructive – nature of the "short term perspective"? Despite the systemic pressures of the short term, the charting of our new course should consider not only quarterly results, but also the arc of our journey as individuals, as communities and as a civilisation.

Ákos Hivekovics

Ákos grew up as a nature-loving youngster in Zala County. From there, he started his journey around the world, only to return after more than 20 years and many adventures. Since 2014, he has been growing premium quality fruits that had been missing not only from hypermarkets, but also Hungary as a whole. The demand for them is so great that his farm is constantly expanding and developing. In fact, they have committed to produce 1,000 tons of pears, blueberries, raspberries, currants, etc. per year within a few years. To ensure smooth production, they strive to maximize the potential of the most advanced technologies (ice nets, support systems, drip irrigation, renewable energy, frost and biological protection). Ákos természetrajongó fiatalként nőtt fel Zala megyében. Onnan indult világkörüli útjára, hogy aztán több mint 20 év és rengeteg kaland után térjen haza. 2014-től olyan prémium minőségű gyümölcsöket termeszt, amik évekig nemcsak a nagyáruházak polcairól, de Magyarországról is hiányoztak. Az igény pedig akkora ezekre, hogy gazdasága folyamatosan bővül és fejleszt. Vállalta, hogy bogyós gyümölcsökből néhány éven belül kiszolgálja a teljes hazai vásárlói igényeket, ez azonban a termelési biztonság érdekében csak a legfejlettebb technológiák (jéghálók, támrendszerek, csepegtető öntözés, megújuló energia, fagy- és biológiai növényvédelem, vertikális gazdálkodás, hidrokultúrák) nyújtotta lehetőségek maximális kihasználásával lehetséges.

Andreas Beckmann

Under his leadership, the Central and Eastern European organisation of the global conservation leader, WWF-CEE seeks to preserve the “Green Heart of Europe” and promotes sustainable local development. Previously, Andreas worked at WWF as deputy director for the WWF Danube-Carpathian Programme. Having worked for 10 years in the Czech Republic, he knows the region well. He is currently based in Vienna. Andreas currently serves on the boards of WWF-Hungary, WWF-Slovakia, WWF-Romania, WWF-Bulgaria, WWF-Ukraine as well as of the Czech Environmental Partnership Foundation. He also served for a number of years on the board of Greenpeace Czech Republic, Nadaci Ekopolis (Slovak Environmental Partnership) and WWF-Adria.

Anis Barnat

Anis is a networker as well as a citizen of the world with experience and journeys in the private sector, public administration, and various institutions. As co-founder of El Sistema Greece, Anis believes in community arts projects as a tool for social inclusion. Anis has worked at the French Embassy in the USA, Radio France, Sciences Po Paris, and at Askonas Holt representing orchestras and choirs from all over the world, developing a close relationship with El Sistema Venezuela. He is MD of the Community Arts Network, which aims to enable, engage and empower individuals, organisations and communities through arts and unlikely alliances and works on advocacy for the role of Arts in tackling our current global challenges.

Barna Barath

Barna is the founder of REAL School Budapest. He has been addressing the challenges of climate change for as much as twenty years now, initially through economy, and for the past seven years through education. He was strategic director and board member of Green School Bali sustainability school for four years. Barna is also co-founder and director of Vertis Environmental Finance for 20 years now and chairman of the supervisory board of the EU's leading climate innovation organization, Climate-KIC. --- Baráth Barna, a REAL School Budapest alapítója, húsz éve foglalkozik a klímaváltozás kihívásaival - eleinte a gazdaság, az elmúlt hét évben pedig az oktatás eszközeivel. A Green School Bali fenntarthatósági iskola stratégiai vezetője és igazgatósági tagja volt négy évig. A Vertis Környezetvédelmi Pénzügyi Zrt. társalapítója és igazgatója húsz éve, illetve a Climate-KIC - az EU vezető klímainnovációs szervezete - felügyelőbizottságának elnöke.

Bazsó Gábor Karotta

Gábor, alias Ninó Karrotta, a ’90-es évek második fele óta dolgozik kommunikációs szakemberként. 20 éve elsősorban autós témákkal foglalkozik, ahol csak teheti: tévében, írásban, interneten. A Totalcar autós magazin és tévéműsor újságírója és műsorvezetőjeként vált igazán ismertté. Az egykori hobbi autóversenyző ma már ismert szószólója a fenntartható közlekedésnek, ezen belül különösen az elektromos autó jövőjének, amelyet élhető környezetünk iránt elkötelezett, személyes innovációval is népszerűsít.

Dalmadi Júlia

Dalmadi Júlia élelmiszer-futurista vállalkozó. Élelmiszeripari és digitális innovációs szakértelemmel rendelkezik, tapasztalt projektmenedzser és koncepció fejlesztő. Júlia fogyasztó- és bolygóközpontú tervezéssel, rendszergondolkodással, valamint élelmiszeripari szereplők globális hálózatával felvértezve dolgozik egy fenntarthatóbb jövő megteremtésén. Élelmiszeripari innovációs mesterszakos tanulmányai óta a Future Food Institute nagyköveteként tevékenykedik, számos oktatási projektet tervez és valósít meg, tavaly pedig a közösségi programok igazgatója lett. Jelenleg az FAO-val közös kezdeményezésükön, a Food & Climate Shaper Boot Camp-eken dolgozik. Legújabb projektjének célja a körkörös megoldások bevezetése a jelenlegi közép- és kelet európai élelmiszer szektorba. Első upcycled élelmiszeripari termékük Ételmentő márkanév alatt júliusban került piacra Magyarországon. -- Júlia Dalmadi is a Food Futurist with digital and food innovation expertise and a proven track record in project management and concept development. Equipped with human and planet-centered design and system thinking, plus a global network of food protagonists, Júlia's vision is to engage, cross-pollinate, and build the sustainable future of our food system. Since her Food Innovation Masters, she has been active as the Ambassador of the Future Food Institute, designing and facilitating multiple educational projects. Last year she became the Director of Community Programs. Currently, Júlia is working on the Food & Climate Shaper Bootcamps, their joint project with FAO. Her most recent project aims to introduce circular solutions to the current CEE food system. This July, under the Ételmentő (aka. FoodSaver) brand their first upcycled food product was launched in Hungary.

Dr. Kirsten Dunlop

Ph.D. in cultural history, Kirsten’s career spans academia, consulting, banking, insurance, strategy, design, innovation and leadership across three continents, pioneering proprietary thinking in the transformation of core business models and industry models through innovation. Chief Executive Officer at EIT Climate-KIC since 2017. One of 16 experts at the Economic and Societal Impact of Research and Innovation (ESIR) expert group, providing independent advice on how future EU research and innovation policy can best support sustainable development and the European Commission’s priorities. Her vision for EIT Climate-KIC is to offer a capability in systems transformation, resilience and regeneration to achieve a zero-carbon economy and a climate resilient society.

F. Liska Tibor

Tibor a kezdetektől részt vett közgazdász édesapja kutatásaiban, amely az önszabályozó társadalom lehetőségeit vizsgálta. 1979-ben készítette a koncepció első matematika modelljét, amit később tovább fejlesztett és apja halála után nevezett el Liska-modellnek. Azóta is sokat foglalkozott ennek továbbfejlesztésével, többek között 1998 és 2018 között a Corvinus Egyetemen, ahol a Liska-modell kurzust is ő vezette. 1990-ben fivérével megalapította a Liska Művek vállalkozásszervező Kft.-t, magyar informatikai úttörőként pedig 30 évig volt a SZTAKI tudományos munkatársa. A LisKaLand egyedi gazdaságszimulációs tábor szervezése is a nevéhez fűződik, amely egy “vállalkozói játszótér”, társadalmi kísérlet és fesztivál is egyben.

Harald Katzmair

Harald is a leading expert in social network analysis with a focus on power relations, innovation and strategic situation analysis. As a social scientist, management philosopher and entrepreneur, he uses his visionary understanding of network science and resilience theory to make new paths in strategy and decision-making processes visible. Harald Katzmair is the founder and CEO of the Vienna-based FASresearch, where he and his international team have developed a wide range of tools and technologies that enable decision-makers to think in new and modern ways to keep pace with our radically changing world.

James Atkins

James has been working in businesses tackling climate change for over 20 years. He is chairman of Vertis Environmental Finance, which he set up in 1998 and is one of the leading emission trading firms in Europe. He has also set up businesses in organic food and farming, as well as in monetising investments in biodiversity. James started working on Planet Super League in 2018. The idea was seeded by a book he wrote ten years ago called Climate Change for Football Fans. It is a critique of climate policy written as a humorous novel about a family of Burnley FC fans.

Juhász Anna

Anna az ország egyik legsikeresebb irodalmi szervezője, a legnagyobb hazai irodalmi rendezvény-sorozatok megálmodója és megvalósítója. 15 éve dolgozik ezen a pályán: első, független műhelyét, a Hadik Irodalmi Szalont 2010-ben alapította, 2020-ra pedig 1000 felett járt hetente rendezvényein a kortárs irodalomra szomjazók száma. Mára online estjeit több mint tízezren követik minden alkalommal. Munkásságát egyetlen cél vezérli: eljuttatni a közönséghez az olvasás szeretetét, a magyar irodalom gazdagságát. Az irodalmat társművészeti ágakkal is szereti összekapcsolni: rendez összművészeti estet, gondolkodik képzőművészeti projektekben, alkotótársaival pedig több filmet is készítettek már.

Kemény Zsófi

Zsófi tizenhét éves kora óta publikál verset, regényt, novellát, drámát. Azóta járja slammerként is az országot. Az ELTE PPK-n viselkedéselemzésből, az SZFE-n filmforgatókönyv-írásból szerzett diplomát. Jelenleg egy olyan fikciós websorozaton dolgozik, amelynek témája az a klímaszorongás, amit a kormányok és a nagyvállalatok propagandája táplál belénk. Célja, hogy egyéni felelősségünknek érezzük azt a környezetrombolást, amit a kormányok cinkosságával a nagyvállalatok követnek el, hogy a végletekig kizsákmányolják a természet erőforrásait, és amely folyamat eredményképpen a Földből csak egy lakhatatlan pusztaság marad. Zsófi has been publishing poetry, novels, short stories and plays since the age of 17. Since then,she has also been touring the country as a slammer. She graduated from ELTE PPK in behavioral analysis and got her degree at SZFE in film script writing. She is currently working on a fiction web series about the climate anxiety we get from the fears that governments and corporate propaganda are feeding us. She aims to make us feel individually responsible for the environmental destruction that big business is committing and in which governments are complicit in exploiting nature's resources to the limit, leaving the Earth an uninhabitable wasteland.

László Varró

László’s first energy job as a regulator was electricity and gas pricing reform and market liberalization in Hungary. His industry tenure as the Strategy Director of MOL Group coincided with the ramp up of oil prices and the introduction of emissions trading in Europe. He became the Head of Gas and Electricity Markets of the International Energy Agency (IEA) on the Monday after Fukushima and led the IEA’s work on LNG markets, gas supply security as well as electricity market design. Later, as Chief Economist of the IEA he built a new team for the analysis of energy investment and was also involved in the new IEA Net Zero roadmap. László started his job as Vice President Global Business Environment at Shell International B.V. as on September 2021.

Laureline Simon

Laureline is the founder and director of One Resilient Earth in Germany, an NGO that builds resilience to climate change impacts through projects weaving together science, art, ancient wisdom and new technologies. After supporting women-led reconstruction projects in villages in India, she worked on large biodiversity conservation projects in South Asia, and then led a research program on adaptation to climate change in sub-Saharan Africa. At the UN Climate Change Secretariat, she coordinated activities related to knowledge management and stakeholder engagement, helped set up the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples’ platform, supported a task force on population displacements, and coordinated a collective intelligence process on long-term resilience.

Lucia Pietroiusti

Lucia works at the intersection of art, ecology and systems, usually outside of the gallery format. She is currently strategic consultant for ecology at Serpentine, London, where she founded the General Ecology project. She is the curator of “Sun & Sea” (Marina), the Lithuanian Pavilion at the 58th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia as well as of the 2nd edition of POWER NIGHT at E-Werk Luckenwalde, “Being Mothers,” in 2021/2022. She was also a curator of the 13th Shanghai Biennale, “Bodies of Water” (2020/2021). At Serpentine, the General Ecology project is a strategic, cross-organizational effort dedicated to implementing ecological principles throughout the Galleries’ public-facing programs, internal infrastructure and networks. Currently, Lucia is developing this project into a new, distributed organisation, the General Ecology Institute.

Méreg Attila

Attila Mezőkövesden született, de már 13 éve Ausztriában él, leszámítva a zarándokutakból és világjáró útjaiból fakadó megszakításokat. Utazásai alatt sokat tanult a természetről és a környezetvédelemről: a világot járva érezte meg, mennyire kicsi is az ember ezen a gyönyörű bolygón. Filozófiája, hogy a 8 milliárdos kirakóban ő csak 1 darab, de minden egyes darab fontos, így amit tud, hozzátesz ő is ahhoz, hogy élhető maradjon a Föld. Világjárók Klubja Bécs nevű YouTube csatornáján fontos szekciót kapnak a környezetvédelmi témák. Hisz az egyén felelősségében és cselekedetében, és hogy amíg élünk, mindennap tehetünk valami jót magunkért, embertársainkért és a bolygónkért.

Neil Devani

Neil Devani is the founder and managing partner of Necessary Ventures, an early-stage VC investing in what the world needs. He primarily focuses on companies using deep technologies and those increasing access to health, education, and opportunity. Neil started his investment career in 2014 and has invested in 50+ companies, of which 8 have grown to $1B+ valuations and 5 have publicly exited including Recursion Pharmaceuticals ($RXRX), Sprinklr ($CXM), Talkspace ($TALK), and Vicarious Surgical ($DEH). Neil is also the host of The Operators, a podcast highlighting people building and scaling impactful organizations, and an advisor to Upsolve, a bankruptcy nonprofit that has helped eliminate hundreds of millions of dollars of medical debt. He completed his J.D. at Stanford Law School after working on the Affordable Care Act in the US Senate. Prior, he attended medical school at Drexel University after completing a B.S. in Pre-medicine at the Pennsylvania State University.

Prof. Dr. Merkely Béla

Dr. Merkely Béla orvos, kardiológus, egyetemi tanár, a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia doktora, a Városmajori Szív- és Érgyógyászati Klinika igazgatója, 2018-tól a Semmelweis Egyetem rektora. A professzor 1966-ban született Budapesten. A rendszerváltás után summa cum laude szerzett orvosi diplomát, majd két évet töltött a világhírű Heidelbergi Egyetemen. A hazai katéteres szívinfarktus-ellátás vezéralakja, Magyarország műszív-programjának elindítója, aki a világ élmezőnyébe helyezte a hazai felnőtt szívtranszplantációt. 2021-ben számos korábbi magyar és nemzetközi kitüntetése mellett Széchényi-díjjal is kitüntették kivételesen értékes tudományos pályája során elért, nemzetközileg is nagyra értékelt kardiológiai kutatási eredményei, elhivatott oktatói munkája, valamint kiemelkedően eredményes intézményvezetői és szakmai közéleti tevékenysége elismeréseként.

Puskás Kata

Kata 22 éve foglalkozik PR-rel, marketinggel és kommunikációval. Tapasztalata a legkülönbözőbb szektorokon (pénzügy, járműipar, építőipari) is átívelt, míg végül a kulturális menedzsment lett a szívügye. Jelenleg a Bodor Tibor Kulturális Egyesület elnöke, ahol önkéntesek segítségével látássérülteknek készítenek hangoskönyveket. Az egyesületben ma már több száz önkéntes munkáját koordinálja, melynek eredményeként az elmúlt négy évben több mint 2000 hangoskönyv készült el. Kata a nagysikerű és formabontó „Vaksötét” koncertsorozat szervezője is, ahol a közönség teljes sötétségben élvezheti a produkciókat, hogy átérezhesse, milyen élmény lehet vak embertársainknak egy koncert és jegyével támogassa őket.

Stefan Frankenberger

Stefan is a Vienna-based musician, producer and artist. Aside his creative activities, he presides a network of artists called Society 77, which performs at events such as the Peace Tram or Session77. He is also the designer of the superfast train network map called Metropa, where the big cities of Europe like London, Frankfurt or Budapest are depicted as metro stations in order to give people a palpable imagery of what Europe could be in the future. After a year of continuous publications and mentioning on social media platforms, Metropa now enters a new stage of public presence by keynotes and lectures in conferences, schools and panels.

Wégner Krisztina

Krisztina a hulladék szerelmese, mivel az „sosem hazudik”. 1998-ban recepciósként került egy 17 közép- és kelet európai országban jelenlevő környezetvédelmi szervezethez, ami egy életre meghatározta érdeklődését: itt köteleződött el a régió és a téma iránt. 2005-ben egy hazai hulladékkoordinációval foglalkozó cég vezetője lett, miközben a jogot is elvégezte: szakdolgozata már a hulladékgazdálkodásról szólt. Hazai és nemzetközi tanácsadó, hatékony, használható és eredményes hulladékos jogi és gyakorlati rendszerek kialakításában vesz részt. Munkája során sok kifogást ismert meg és gyűjtött csokorba, hogy megmutathassa, hogyan lépjünk túl rajtuk, és legyünk részesei egy hulladékmentesebb, fenntarthatóbb és élhetőbb világ megteremtésének.
