Theme: A Glance at the Past - A Glimpse of the Future

When talking about the future, one can only regard idealities, predictions, fears and hopes. When talking about the past, one can regard facts. What can we learn from the reality of the past to improve the quality of life in our future? In what ways do the challenges we face today allow us to re-think what it means to live in a sustainable world in order to witness advancement in society? A glimpse at how the world and the society might change in various areas can open your mind and create awareness of mankind’s power to create a sustainable future. Some of Norway’s brightest minds across multiple fields will give their outlook on how we can achieve this and offer unique insight into what we can anticipate for a better tomorrow.

Erik Knudsen

Researcher at MediaFutures Research Centre for Responsible Media Technology & Innovation

Erik Knudsen is a highly experienced researcher in the subject of political communication and the principal investigator of the project NEWSREC – The Double-edged Sword of News Recommenders' Impact on Democracy (awarded by the highly competitive program Research projects for young talents by the Research Council of Norway), which is based at the MediaFutures Research Centre for Responsible Media Technology and Innovation. He completed his postdoctoral work at the Digital Social Science Core Facility (DIGSSCORE) and holds a PhD from the University of Bergen's Department of Information Science and Media Studies. Much of Erik Knudsen’s research focuses on the causal effects of algorithmic technology on news consumption and polarization. His research has been published in prominent international academic journals, such as Political Communication, Digital Journalism, and Journalism.

Karl Håkon Rødland

Design Thinking and Personal Development Trainer

Karl Håkon Rødland loves to share inspiring and thought-provoking ideas. Karl is currently finishing up his NHH and CEMS MSc degree. While writing his thesis on how companies can better engage and retain young knowledge workers in hybrid work environments, he works at the innovation company Pracademy - faciliating design thinking and personal development trainings and workshops for organizations. Karl is very passionate about what makes human beings thrive and perform at their best, and is the co-founder of the RISE morning community, hosting daily 6am calls for people who want to feel more fulfilled and productive in their lives. He is also the host of the Unleashing Human Potential Podcast where he interviews profiles like the founder of Reebok and the Chief of Defence of Norway on how normal people also can tap into their potential. He loves to host events that inspire learning and growth, and is very excited about welcoming you to this year's TEDxBergen conference.

Marie Storli

Leader of Rethinking Economics Norway

Marie Storli is the leader of Rethinking Economics Norway. She holds a master’s degree in economics with specialization in environmental economics and climate models. She is passionate about the environment and the sustainability challenges that lie ahead. Marie’s interest in sharing her knowledge has led her to become a skilled speaker and writer. Her primary areas of interest are ecological and social sustainability, as well as economic history. In addition to being the leader of Rethinking Economics Norway, Marie is also co-owner and sustainability consultant in Myldring. Here she gets to combine her passion for sustainability with her dedication for sharing her knowledge by writing articles, holding workshops, public speaking, arranging conferences and helping businesses succeed with sustainability strategies.

Morten Goodwin

Professor at the Univercity of Agder & Deputy Director at the Centre of AI research

Morten Goodwin is a Norwegian computer scientist and professor at the University of Agder. After attaining his master’s degree within information- and communication technology from the same school he went further and got a PhD at the University of Aalborg within artificial intelligence. Goodwin, however, is not only an academic, or a self-described “nerd” as he likes to put it. He is also the deputy director for the Centre for Artificial Intelligence research where they seek to push the research frontier in pursuit of superintelligence. Goodwin is also a popular science communicator focusing on the enormous progress within AI during the latest decades, but also about the common misconceptions of it. In 2020 he published his book AI: The myth about the machines.

Silje Grastveit

Founder & Director of Social Impact Lab

Silje Grastveit has been working within social entrepreneurship and innovation for more than a decade. As the founder and director of Social Impact Lab, she is dedicated to build entrepreneurial communities for innovators working to solve social challenges and create systemic change. After becoming a designer, Silje started studying at Kaospilot, an alternative business school for transformative leadership and social innovation in Denmark, and obtained her degree in 2006. She is currently studying gestalt therapy, from a genuine interest in human behaviour and how we change the way we think and act. Besides being the founder and director of Social Impact Lab, Silje has vast experience as a process consultant, project leader, program designer, entrepreneur and mentor for people working for social change.

Tonje Frydenlund

Director of Acquisition & Business Development Nordics at Snøhetta

Tonje Frydenlund studied Landscape Architecture at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and at Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo, California, USA. Additionally, she has further education in management, project-management, and elite coaching. Tonje joined Snøhetta in 2001 and has been part of the management since 2004. From 2013-2019 she was Managing Director for Snøhetta Oslo, focusing on the Nordic and European market, and since 2019 she has focused on Business Development in the Nordic region. With over 25 years of experience in the architectural industry, she has been part of multiple projects nationally and internationally. Tonje is passionately pushing the sustainability agenda within the building industry and is currently the Chair of the Research Center on Zero Emission Neighborhoods in Smart Cities and the Chair of Norwegian Green Building Council.
