In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Brittney Millspaugh-Storms

Assistant Professor at Indiana State University

Dr. Brittney Millspaugh-Storms, PT, DPT, MBA, NCS completed her BA in biology with an emphasis in molecular biology and genetics from Anderson University, and her doctorate and masters at Southwest Baptist University. She has since go on to become certified in women’s and pelvic health as well as become a board certified clinical specialist in neurology. She currently teaches full time as an Assistant Professor at Indiana State University. She also continues to take patients and practice at the ISU Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation clinic on ISU’s campus.

Elynor Head

Student, Indiana State University

Elynor Head attends Indiana State University and currently is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Geology. She is a part of the Honors College and has been able to get involved in student research at a relatively young age. Elynor is currently studying diatoms from Lac Vieuz Desert in the paleolimnology research lab. She is highly interested in space exploration and plans to pursue a career as a planetary geologist. Elynor started her research looking at diatoms in coal mine drainage and gradually gained more experience. She is looking forward to pursuing further education, and getting more individuals interested in space exploration or science in general.

Hailee Lauritzen

Licensed Social Worker and Faculty Instructor at Indiana State University

Hailee Lauritzen, D.H.Sc.c, MSW, LSW. She is a licensed social worker, and faculty Instructor at Indiana State University in the department of Social Work. She completed a master’s degree in social work at Michigan State University in 2008 and is currently a doctoral candidate at Indiana State University in Health Sciences. More recently, Ms. Lauritzen has been working in the medical field as a Medical Social Worker with homecare and hospice patients for Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of the Wabash Valley. In addition, Ms. Lauritzen is the Title IV-E Coordinator for the Child Welfare Scholarship with the State of Indiana. Ms. Lauritzen is focusing her dissertation research on Interprofessional Simulations and evaluating if simulation alone is enough to teach the soft skills of collaboration between disciplines, and behavioral/emotional skills for patient-centered care in a rural health care setting.

JoEllen Henson

Field Director for the Department of Social Work at Indiana State University

JoEllen Henson is the Field Director for both the BSW and MSW programs as well as a Multi-Year Faculty Instructor for the Department of Social Work at Indiana State University. Ms. Henson is a Licensed Social Worker in both the state of Indiana and Illinois. Ms. Henson earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW) from Illinois State University in 1989, a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Illinois in 1992, and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration (M.S.Ed.) from Eastern Illinois University in 2005. Ms. Henson is currently enrolled in the Doctorate of Health Sciences program at Indiana State University. Prior to beginning her work in academia, Ms. Henson worked as a School Social Worker in the state of Illinois for 26 years.

Katherine Pine

Senior Instructor at Indiana State University

Katherine Pine is a Senior Instructor at Indiana State University and teaches online for Ivy Tech Community College. She teaches Public Communication, Interpersonal, and Media Production. Katherine is also a mother of a 14-year-old daughter, Penelope. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Indiana State University in Communication before earning a second Master's degree in Education Media Design and Technology from Full Sail University. She has taken the role of an educator and a mother as her most important roles.

Lucy Campbell

Spanish Instructor in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at Indiana State Univeristy

Dr. Lucy Campbell serves as Faculty Fellow in Academic Affairs. She works with the Office of the Provost and Admissions. Her primary responsibilities are helping designing materials and reaching out to students and families who identify as Hispanic/Latino, working with ISU’s Admissions staff in high schools and on campus. Dr. Campbell is a Spanish instructor in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics. She completed her Master of Arts in Spanish and Literature and her Doctorate on Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction in Language Education in the USA. Her academic areas of interest include curriculum and language education, foreign language pedagogy, and the study of French, and Japanese languages. She has traveled to various countries of Central America, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia.

Malynnda Johnson

Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at Indiana State University

Dr. Malynnda Johnson is an associate professor in the department of communication teaching mostly in the areas of health communication and media studies. She completed her PhD in 2012 at the University of WI – Milwaukee. She is also the associate program director for the genetic counseling program. Teaching the interviewing and counseling class as well as cross cultural communication. For 15 years most of Dr. Johnson’s research centered on how media shapes our perceptions and understanding of health topics such as HIV and STIs. She has written two books on media representations of health topics including one on HIV and the other on neurodiversity and mental health. Currently, Dr. Johnson shifted slightly to examining the role humor plays in our health. When she is not writing, teaching, or serving my community she is often found with her two dogs hiking the amazing woods of Indiana or camping in them.

Sarah Tobias

Assistant Toddler Teacher at Indiana State University Early Childhood Education Center

After Sarah Tobias graduated from Clay City High School in 2010, she attended the University of Southern Indiana. Tobias received a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (non-licensure) and a minor in Art Education. She enjoys her job as one of the Assistant Toddler Teachers at ISU’s Early Childhood Education Center while simultaneously trying to balance living with a rare and invisible disease.

Stephanie Bertoli

Women's health activist

Stephanie Bertoli is a homeschooling mom to three little ones by day and a running coach/women's health advocate by night. Prior to becoming a mother, she earned her BS in Exercise Science, MS in Sport Management, was a collegiate athlete, and collegiate track and field coach. Stephanie loves big scary goals, making lists, being outside, and challenging herself to stay in the present moment. Faith, family, coffee, and fresh air keep her going!

Tameka Ellington

Author and Entrepreneur

Dr. Tameka is a TRIO Upward Bound Alum and was the first and only person in her family to get a college degree. Tameka is CEO and Founder of the 1st Generation Revolutionaries, a movement developed to provide professional development, networking and spiritual fulfillment to her clients. She is the author of Make Fear Your Superpower and Be the GOAT: Career Readiness Manual for First Generation Students and Young Professionals. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion from Kent State University (KSU), a Master of Arts in Apparel and Textiles from Michigan State University, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from KSU. After several years of working in the fashion industry, she had a calling to teach. In 2005 she became an adjunct instructor at the Kent State University Fashion School while attaining her PhD. In 2012, she became the first African American Professor at the Kent State University Fashion School and served as a Fashion Design Professor/Scholar at KSU for 15 years.
