Theme: We are the future - Children`s perspective of Climate Change

In the race against time and in the fight against climate change, we decided to host our very own and very first TEDx Youth Event with Kindergarten & Preschool children. Our goal is to give children a voice and promote children's participation rights, as well as self-agency, on the crucial topic of climate change.

At Berlin Cosmopolitan School we believe that we can capture very powerful messages regarding climate change. Our hope is that the children will inspire others around the world to join our effort in making a huge difference for our planet.

In order to make this happen, we wrote a book entitled "I Consent". It was read aloud to the children by their educators, asking them about their ideas on climate change and if they would consent to sharing these ideas to inspire others. The various topics or "ideas worth spreading" were generated by children for children with the support of their educators. The recordings took place during the first two weeks of November and were filmed by videographer Claudia Richter. They were then compiled into a series of statements, interviews, performances and pictures to be streamed online and inspire others on Friday, November 26th, 2021.

The moral and ethical foundational knowledge presented by our TEDx Talk speakers is to be highly commended. It also requires a team effort to support our speakers from cheering and celebrating one's accomplishments to various support offered ‘behind the scenes.’ Our youngest of learners never cease to amaze us and it's inspiring to have such dedicated teaching professionals working with them every day in order to make an event such as this happen.

Otters: Preventing the spread of germs by handwashing is of utmost importance. However, ensuring that we turn the water off and use only what is needed is essential in protecting resources. As the Otters children have shared, ‘’We are the world!’’

Hippos: The impact of waste management on the planet and our ethical value system – active advice from the Hippos when it comes to maintaining a healthy well balanced waste management approach for the planet.

Dolphins: A creative discourse about the impact of consumption to our planet with a dramatic and surprising end as shared by the Dolphins.

Sharing our Enlightment

Learn more from the Frogs preschool group about the usage of electricity and the elimination of waste production in our world. As the Frogs group also share more about their created lanterns with recycled materials, it is important to reminder to let out lights shine out always by thinking of ways that we can recycle and make our world a better place for all.
