In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Emma Burgess

Emma Burgess a current senior and co-president of TedxOakKnoll will be performing her third talk, Digital Storytelling, this year. She has been an avid member of the club since her sophomore year where she first presented “The Evolution of Runway Fashion”. She chose to speak about digital media this year because it has become such a major part of communication and self-expression today. Emma is really excited to dive into exploring digital media’s role in society in her talk and analyzing the various ways it has shaped modern storytelling. Outside of Tedx, Emma is heavily involved in athletics, arts, and several academic clubs. You can find her on the tennis courts where she played with the tennis team for four years, on stage performing in every spring musical, or singing with the concert choir. Additionally, she writes for the school newspaper, is an editor for the literary magazine, and is an eighth-grade peer leader. Emma will be truly missed by everyone in the club next year as she heads off to the University of Richmond to study Journalism and Communications.
