In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Janae Jones-Haywood

University Student

Jahnae Jones-Haywood is a 4th year student at University of Toronto Mississauga specializing in Criminology with a minor in Ethics. Her focus of study and research is on prisons and policing specifically looking at how race and gender play a role in experiences with those systems. She is a research assistant on the UTM sociology departments anti-racism task force. Some of her research and activism includes her work as a student representative for UTM on the Advisory Committee to the VP at UTM, her work alongside the Special Advisory to the VP and President on Anti-Racism and Equity, being a co-founder of the UTM Black Literature Club and an executive of the UTM BSA.

Naomi Addai

University Student

Naomi Addai is a 19-year-old Black girl activist, thespian, and speaker from Toronto. She currently attends Ryerson University, pursuing my Bachelor of Arts. in Politics and Governance. Her work can be seen as a community activist through participation and leadership in organizations such as Plugged In Youth, We Rise, the Ryerson U President’s Committee on Anti-Black Racism, and One Voice One Team, Her work is centered on partnering with groups that center advocacy for Black youth in their mission. Most notably, she delivered a keynote speech about Anti-Black Racism in Ontario schools at the 2019 Peel District School Board "We Rise Together" conference.

Sophia Abolore

University Student

Sophia Abolore is a first year Computer Science student at the University of Toronto and a software developer at Manrex Ltd. She is a recipient of the University of Toronto National Scholarship and will be one of the 50 university students, and the only first year student, across North America, to participate in Microsoft’s Garage internship program this summer, as a software engineer. Her work ranges from equity in the education system to promoting racial and gender parity in STEM and she is extremely involved in activism and channels her involvement through slam poetry.
