Theme: Collision

The theme of the third TEDxYouth@QDHS is “Collision”

Collision can exist in any sphere of society, whether it is between cultures, social interactions, scientific theories, and other subject areas. Speakers can share stories about technology, arts, personal stories, social issues, literature, and even foods as long as their ideas are global and are ideas that are indeed worth spreading.

Emily Hu 胡悦然

Student at Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School

Fond of literature, when Emily a G12 students at Qibao Dwight was reading texts in different languages, she found that translating texts created opporunties for collision. In her opinion, the origin of these collisions is caused by the number of differences between cultures. Today she wants to share her findings, and in her speech evaluate different ways of translation, in order to find out the effectiveness of protecting the completeness of cultures when they are spread in different ways.

Erickson Verdon

Physics Teacher at Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School

Mr. Erickson Verdon graduated from the center of teaching education in the Philippines, Philippine Normal University where he majored Physics. When he was young, he wanted to be a nurse but destiny made its way of him becoming a teacher. This year marks his 10 years of being a teacher. He loves sharing his knowledge and exploring his capabilities. Right now, he loves studying Chinese and his dream is to teach physics using Chinese language.

Gourav Biswas

Music Teacher at Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School

Gourav Biswas is a multi-talented musician from India who has a passion for education. He is a fan of world music. He believes that theoretical knowledge of music is as important as performance ability, and as an IBDP music teacher, he has worked hard to balance his skills and achieved excellent results over the years. His passion for music history and theory often inspires students. Away from school or work, he finds peace and adventure in the mountains.

Harrison Qi 戚驭飞

Harrison is a G12 students at Qibao Dwight. What is the relationship between the listener and the speaker when we communicate verbally with other people in our daily lives? Are there different categories? And, from a macroscopic point of view, do these different relationships lead to different forms of public space or sphere. The last speaker, Harrison, wants to explore and raise the question of whether, in the post-epidemic era, after all the public sector crises, we should rethink what we want the public sphere to look like.

Icey Cheng 程奕宁

Music Teacher at Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School

Speaker 5 As an environmental science learner at Qibao Dwight, Icey went to Kenya with her friends to explore the water crisis last summer. She went to many slums, including Kibera, which is the biggest slum in Africa. By talking with the locals and the government there, she learnt the one of the biggest challenges that people are facing is accessing clean drinking water. Icey was impressed by their survival plight and gave a lesson to the children in a school in Kibera about drinking water security. She wants to share her experience and this global issue through this Ted-Talk event.

Jasmine He 何佳璐

Jasmine a G12 student at Qibao Dwight is passionate about English literature and creative writing, and she likes to link literary theories and class content to real-life situations. One of her favorite hobbies is to observe nature with her curious eyes—every observation is a stimulation to feed her mind with ceaseless imagination and inspiration. She treats nature as one significant factor in her writing, from which she is able to derive her own understanding of human beings and individual life. To her, nature serves as the blank canvas for her writing, and by observing it, she is able to paint the most fabulous color of life.

Jenny Yang 杨依霏

Student at Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School

“Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of education.” When ones values are formed, there should always be a focus –educational values. In this talk, Jenny a G12 student at Qibao Dwight is going to discuss her perspectives on the collision of educational values within different cultures. As a deep reflective thinker, she loves to meditate and self-explore in her little inner world as a routine. Through self-conflicts, struggles along the imperfections of the world, she is able to reconcile with reality, looking at things at different perspectives and embracing the world’s grey spectrum – the dustiness after collision.

Yolanda Li李晗轶

Yolanda is a Grade 11 at Qibao Dwight. Confident, enthusiastic and outgoing, she has many hobbies from which she is most passionate about piano and tennis. Over the years she has developed critical thinking skills. This enables her to think about different personalities and aspects of human nature. Today she will share her ideas about the psyche structure—id, ego and superego. After listening, you may want to start making friends with your superego to overcome your id to achieve a better self.
