MOVE ON: To watch with a step behind, and to go forward.

Today, did we ever see the world with our own eyes?
Didn’t we just focus on the messages that were constantly stimulating our eyes?
So many things are made, collided and faded away at this moment.
Nevertheless, we only keep our eyes on the changes right in front of us and tend to think as if they were everything.

On 2021 Winter, TEDxSNU would like to talk about moving on our own eyes from where our eyes have stayed.

Therapist Kim Moon-hee believes in the healing power of photographs. She believes through photographs which are vehicles that have captured passing emotions, we can face the mind and heal it. Let's listen to Kim Moon-hee, who brings out the inner truth from a photograph that is, ironically, looking at you.

The fear of being incomplete and the desire to settle for reality continuously push ourselves away from harmless meals. Philosopher Chef Lynn Ahn is constantly thinking about how to approach a meal that comforts my body and five senses for my happiness, starting from the small safely. We would like to hear about the chef's precious attempts to realize the two seemingly contradictory values of "consolation of desire" and " ethical practice" at our table.

Every choice we make in the present sequentially leads to some point in the future. But we are often too optimistic about where it's heading. The insensitiveness comes from blind faith in science/technology and turning a blind eye to social problems. Seonran Cheon says one can change the society(future) by finding one’s right to be happy as all big social changes begin from normal individuals. Like a butterfly creating a hurricane, by listening to those labeled as ‘minorities’ and amplifying their voice, we get to build a better world. Cheon, a sci-fi novelist, wants to talk about where our sight lies in the present, and where it is headed toward.

New Media Artist

Close your eyes and think of your favorite place. How is the sound there? Furthermore, what will machines think of that place? New Media Artist Park Seung-soon sees the world through sound, art, and technology. He has developed the ‘Neuroscape’, an artificial intelligence-based soundscape system, and has conducted various artistic experiments. Ironically, through the soundscape AI portrays, he ruminates on human beings and society and takes a step forward toward the essence. Let’s listen to the story of our present and future that Park Seung-soon will tell us.

Visual Artist

We recognize the world that surrounds us with our eyes, hands, ears, and various senses. It is called art to express 'beauty' based on images acquired through various senses. We often approach art with a narrow viewpoint. For example, we regard visual art as an area for only people who recognize objects with their eyes. However, visually impaired people can also express beauty in their own creative ways. Visual artist Jeongsoon Oum, who looks at the world with a creative perspective that goes against the conventional, will talk about the story of disability in art not as a deficiency or impediment, but as a strength enabling infinite possibilities.

We have been experiencing a world we had never imagined before, thanks to technological advancement. However, have you ever felt that there has been little change in the culinary field, compared to others? Here is an innovative individual who applies 3D printing technology into food to create a new food culture. CEO Hyun-woo Kim developed ‘Yolilo’, a 3D food printer for the first time in Korea, believing that it can stimulate sharing of experience among people. Why don’t we listen to the story of Hyun-woo Kim and his journey in realizing the meaning and value of digitalizing food?
