Alaa Al Khourdajie

Alaa is a Senior Scientist at the IPCC, WGIII on climate change mitigation. He is a climate change economist with a particular interest in integrated assessment modelling, international climate negotiations (coalition formation and stability) and national climate policies. Alaa has a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Bath 2017, during which he looked at international cooperation on climate change and linkages with various trade policies such as border carbon adjustments. From 2017-2019 Alaa worked as a Teaching Fellow in Environmental Economics at the University of Edinburgh where he delivered undergraduate and postgraduate courses on the economics of climate change. Prior to his Ph.D., Alaa worked in the private sector looking at energy policy in the UK. He also has a Masters in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics from the University of Birmingham, 2010.

Bindu N. Lohani was Ranking Vice-President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development. He was responsible for the ADB’s Economic Research and Regional Cooperation Department (Office of the Chief Economist), Sustainable Development and Climate Change Department, and Office of Information Systems and Technology. Prior to the above position, Dr. Lohani was Vice-President (Finance and Administration) of ADB. Dr. Lohani served as Chair of Investment Committee of the Pension Fund (more than $2 billion); Chair of Asset Liability Management Committee; and Chair of Crisis Management Committee.

A chance meeting with an elderly stranger at Amsterdam who having heard Shilshila’s life story said, ‘Your life is blessed Shishila. Now it’s time for you to share this blessing to many other girls who are not as fortunate as you’, changed her life. Despite being a casual conversation, it stuck with her as if she found the very purpose of her life at such a young age.
